Windows 7 crackles on startup

Hello, my first post here.
Have used the Pax drivers before on winxp for my x-fi extreme music. the worked really well and fixed a bunch of issues.

loaded windows 7 ultimate retail, used the 1.30a driver and when booting into the OS, my speakers make a god awful static/crackle sound. however, once the OS has loaded, i can play movies through various players, listen to music etc., and have no issues.

what i have not done yet is play any games. will try that this weekend. i tried to back rev the drivers to the 1.25 set and the same thing. now it is probably something i can live with, assuming that there is no gaming issues with the sound.

was just looking for some thoughts on the issue.

i was contemplating putting my older audigy 2 card back in and see what it was like, as i had never had any issues with it on older OSs where I have with the x-fi extreme music.

again, any comments or thoughts would be appreciated,

thanks,

I have the same issue, though mine was fine for a few days and the suddenly started to crackle randomnly, cutting off music and firefox not playing sound, aswell as most windows noises. I found a thread linking something to the 190+ nvidia drivers power management messes them up, so im just reinstalling the 185 and the youpax drivers.
Hopefully this will solve the issue

Re: Windows 7 crackles on startup

thanks for the responses.
i only have 3 gigs of ram.
i tried to shove my old audigy 2 card in. for some reason it did not even detect as an unknown device. i did not spend long trying to figure that out as my patience as growing thin. [card had been sitting around for awhile, and who knows what state it was in]
i enabled the onboard sound and i am using that right now without issue. of course it would be nice to have my x-fi going, but the static would drive me nuts, as it turned out, it was not just on startup, but i could hear it at other random times as well.

i guess i will wait for other suggestions, or wait for newer drivers to try out. i had tried basically any driver i could get my hands on, cleaning thoroughly in between each driver install.

i will continue to watch this thread,

thanks again.

Hmm, and what known issue is this Robert ???

I have 8GB of ram under Windows 7, RC1 and have had random crackles but for the most part I just reboot and it's fine

Re: Windows 7 crackles on startup

Most people can't get mic working with 4gigs of ram if you take out 1gig and go down to 3.25 or 3.5 gigs your mic would work on audigy cards.

Re: Windows 7 crackles on startup

Daniel K has released an XFi UAA driver package over on the Creative website. I have been using this pack for the last week or so and it seems very stable and feature complete. I am using an XFi xtremeMusic on Win7 x64.

Other users have stated that crackle/pop issues are improved although personally I have never encountered this problem. Still - worth a try.

Re: Windows 7 crackles on startup

tried the above driver. still the same snap crackle and pop. must be some weird combo of what other hardware i have. it is an older mobo. asus a8n-sli premium.
so who bloody knows what the issue could be. back to on board
