Sound Blaster Live 5.1 on Windows 7 RC

Hello, I'm new on this forum. I hope you will help in resolving my problems.
So, is it possible to run Sound Blaster Live 5.1 (SB0102) on Win 7 RC ? I tried a lot of drivers but everything failed. Integrated RTL ALC888 is a crap .

Re: Sound Blaster Live 5.1 on Windows 7 RC

I tried to install yours SB 24 bit driver but it fails. It says "setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system, please ensure that device is properly installed before running this setup".

If i dont find any drivers I will buy Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Gamer [30SB073000002] are there full working drivers for this card on Win7/Vista ?

Re: Sound Blaster Live 5.1 on Windows 7 RC

The onboard Realtek you have is a very decent chip. Realteks HD Audio is by far the best onboard audio solution out there, and holds its own very well against Creatives X-Fi (there's even a software version of the X-Fi the will run on the HD chip, although you have to pay for it.. that part sucks). When I sell computers the only time I ever find myself installing a sound card is when it doesn't have Realtek HD Audio onboard.

As to a difference in quality of sound, most times you won't notice. The major problem with onboard audio is that you usually lose bass/treble adjusting (in my case I use my headphones 90% of the time, so having a sound card that has bass/treble adjustment is a must). Since you are directly hooking this up to a stereo this shouldn't be an issue as you can adjust for this on the stereo itself.

If I were you I'd give the onboard audio a try for a while, and if you aren't satisfied with it then I would take the plunge to the X-Fi XtremeGamer (just stay away from the XtremeAudio). Just be sure to get the latest drivers off of Realteks website HERE as the motherboard manufacturers drivers can be a little outdated. As an alternative you can get the drivers you need HERE (as Realteks site can be slow sometimes).

Oh, and if you're interested, be sure to give Robert a PM about his tuned Realtek drivers that he is currently testing out for Vista and Windows 7.

Thanks for your objective reply. Currently I'm using windows drivers for HD Audio, I think sound quality is better, sound on official drivers wasn't clear. I am going to ask Robert for his drivers.
I'm waiting for other opinions.

exclamation Re: Sound Blaster Live 5.1 on Windows 7 RC

About 30% people I know is still using same old Sound blaster 5.1 digital, and it was their main reason why they never transferred Vista from XP- they are using it for different purpose but for most of them it is a center for home (demo) studio and they are all agree that is for such purpose better than any other except EMU. I am using same card couse is better than any Realtek or C-Media. Question is there any chanse for good driver with 5.1 support for this card? Also I sow lot people on diferent borards with same problem.

For music playback? foobar2000 along with the WASAPI plugin on my Vista machine (main rig), and the Kernel plugin for my XP machines (at work, and for my "everyday everything else" Eee Box).

I should point out that I have an X-Fi XtremeGamer for my gaming rig as the board I use has a crappy Sigmatel chip which really sucks for gaming (music and movie playback it decent, but gaming... woof!).

It supports but, I don't need EAX. I want to get a clear "deeper" sound generally when I'm listening to music. Is it worth to spend money on it ?
