??? Uhm, new drivers? (maybe?)

I am puzzled & tired, so I ain't too sure about this one but it's making me eyebrows go all crunched-up and just seems out of place.

Figuring something must be busting soon on the drivers scene, I perused nVidia's driver mirror ftp and noticed that there's new directories today for 28.41, 28.80, 28.84, and a new set of 28.32's uploaded for 2K. (The other three are for both XP & 2K).

Now I don't recall any of these, and they are dated today...but I'm thinking it's just some new old ones. I'm downloading the 28.84s to try in the morning, me eyes aren't working so good anymore and the damned keyboard is getting all wiggly again.

BTW-DX9 on both 98se & XP doesn't change benchies much for me, but some games seem to be playing better!

Now that is some serious crazy-talk boy, there's no reason to panic ....at least not yet.

I figure nVidia's got another 10 hours and 10 minutes before I hit the point of ripping me GF3 out of Bubbles and sticking the 8500 in.

I'm just thinking that our Nvidia hardware is now dated in comparison to the ATi 9000,9500,9700 lines (DX 9). Not to mention the lack of compitetion to the ATi AIW cardds ..... What the F*** ever happened to Personal Cinema..... My spider sences are telling me that Nvidia are running scared at the moment.

rolleyes Hmmm...this might explain a few things....

There is a story on the Inquirerer about how this "final" release of DX9 ain't final, it's just the latest beta that M$ is calling final to get DX9 out on the market place and that the REAL final of DX9 is still forthcoming. Supposedly this "final" version has very limited DX9 driver support, which is why we ain't seeing nVidia join the "IT'S DX9 DAY!!!!" fun.

Before anyone adds their .02 about the Inquirerer as a source of info, I assure you I've heard it all before. I happen to like them and think they get it right a lot more than the get it wrong, they are working from rumor and supposition a lot but I've always felt they were pretty forward about that too. They don't claim their news is gospel, they just claim it's interesting and let you make your own judgements from the facts.

These facts fit pretty well, and it would explain an awful lot of weirdness in the driver world for me. So I guess we're back to the original question:

"When will the final of DX9 be released?"

yes,

I have noticed some "beta" bells about this new DX9...

If you go into dxdiag, it still has beta files listed... (dont know if this is just my installation) but I have undone it twice to see..

and it stays the same.......

I could agree with this seeing as though the proformance boost was next to none (with some people, I personaly so a 150pnt boost in my onion score) and plus the nvidia not chosing tis band wagon to carry anything on...

Gues time will tell.........

Matth will become famous soon enough
System Specs

Maybe the next Nvidia set will be at least partially tweaked for DX9 - perhaps it all comes out with a big fanfare for NV30

DX9 ??? - somehow I doubt it'll do much for my GF2MX

There's a reason you're supposed to System Restore back to plain DX8.1 before putting DX9 on. That's why some close-but-not-final files got left behind.

Digi - That's some spin you've got there. Don't swallow anything whole-hog that comes from just one source.

DX9 is final. Final final. DX9.1 will be tied to NV30, just like DX8.1 was all 8500 stuffs. That's what they're talking about.

When in doubt, ask a developer, or at least someone in the first tier beta.

I was told yesterday by nVidia PR that there is no plan to release dx9 drivers before dx9 card is available "early next year".

Also, GF FX reviews won't be out untill "early next year" as well...

dx 9 is very stable for my system but I get about 100 point drop on 3dmark2001, but increase 5~7 fps on Mohaa. this is weird since mohaa is openGL.

Mark is right, why would they come out with DX9 drivers when none of their cards currently support any DX9 features? And also who really cares since we won't see anything (other than 3DM2k3) that will use DX9 features for awhile anyway?

"final"

I still think there's a lot of truth to that Inquirerer story, it ties up too many loose ends to be entirely false IMHO. As for new drivers, all the "new" ones they just put up have .inf files dated around the same time as similar sets, they really ain't NOTHING to get excited about. (Although I did waste a few hours last night trying them to make sure, ain't I nice? )
