Pissed BSOD with nv4_disp-Error

Hello Folks

First: Sorry for my bad english, I´m from Germany.

I built a computer for my dad. It works fine for about one year, but now more and more BSODs appears while working with WinXPpro. It doesn´t matter, what he does, after 5mins oder 2 hours the Message with the "nv4_disp" appears.

The system:
Elitegroup K7S5A, 256MB SDRAM, Elsa Gladiac 311 (Geforce MX200), WinXPpro.

All the hints I found in the web refered to the VIA KT-Chipsets.

Any help for my Dad?

Cya

If this setup is with a Service pack maybe reinstalling the service pack could fix it.

The hard way would be to uninstall the nVidia drivers but clean out the registry of all reference to them also.
And then reinstall the vid-drivers.

And the last solution...is....FORMAT.....there ...i said it..

You could try an application like WinDoctor (norton utilities) if you have it that might fix it.

But seriously i suggest you wait for some more opinions cause maybe someone here had the same problem and fixed it.

One question though: When did this start to happen??
Was it after you installed drivers or something else ?
Or was it from the original WinXp installation?

Basicly it looks like a BAD driver installation or installation that wasnt done completely and was cut off before it was done.

Thist "feature" happens since about one month.
Nothing was changed on the system because: "never change a running system"

Ok so you understand:

The nv4_disp.inf is an inf file that is needed in the installation of the nvidia drivers.

Or it could be the nv4_disp.dll that was loaded into the system files and is needed by the Operating System

So you may want to try reinstalling the drivers first which is the easiest thing to try.(use the same version as it was if you can)

Also make sure that these files are still there and havent been removed or moved.

But are you sure that no one tried to update display drivers ??

Its really weird that your display drivers stopped working without a reason.

Oh, I´m very sure, that there ar no other drivers then the one I installed one year ago because my father is only working with the computer. H doesn´t know how to set up a computer or how to install new drivers...

But I´ll try to reinstall the drivers. If it does not help, i´ll post here again.

Cu, Oliver

Hallo again

Now I´m back from my Father. I installed the latest Detonator-Driver (V 41.07) without uninstalling the old one.

Now everything seems to be OK.
I hope He´ll never see the BSOD again

Thanks for your help,

Oliver

Sorry to say that: The BSOD WILL come back. I had exactly the same error once. You have to completely delete the drivers. I scanned the registry for nvidia and detonator and stuff like that and deleted everything.
After that i installed the newest driver (Was 40.72) and the system is rocksolid stable since then.
I hope this helps.

This sounds like the dreaded Infinite Loop. There is really nothing proven that can fix it

I had recently the same problem. Running new system, bought january 2003, everything is fine. Month ago, start up windows XP, display goes wild. All kinds of stripes and bars. Windows XP says "dump physical memory to disk". SOme restarts, screen keeps the problem.

Start XP in safe mode, now windows says problem is in device driver for the MSI GF4 Ti4600-VTD 128 mb and relation to the NV4_DISP device file. Finally after some restarts the problem goes away by itself, and i updated the driver, but without deleting the old ones.

Now the problem starts again!!

I have read the solution, scan the registry, delete old drivers en reinstall???

Can anyone explain how i can scan, delete the old drivers, and where can i get the new one. I'm new at this.

Thanks

René
