Longhorns videocard requirements
Just wanted to flesh out some rumours I heard about the new vid requirements for Longhorn. I know the new interface will have more demanding requirements and the WGF (windows graphics foundation) is the API that it will use to draw the desktop. If Aeroglass is to function properly the GDI (graphical device interface) and the WGF have to coexist, so I guess were going to need a more powerful renderer to run the Aeroglass GUI?
I know the four tiers of the Aeroglass gui will still have more bells and whistles than the average user expects today, no doubt the card and drivers will be more sophisticated, can anyone enlighten me further, because I will have to replace my sons, daughters and my own desktop eventually.

IF rumors hold water at all, a 'full installation' of Longhorn will require a R520 or higher graphics chip(due to the next-gen directX reuirements), as well as possibly a multi-threaded CPU

I have seen the various interations of Longhorn but they are still using the XP setup, I had heard that a higher level of refinement and power was recommended for Longhorn regardless....is that true?

where can i get a beta version of longhorn? I would like to check it out.
A friend of mine has a really early build of winLH when it still used the winFS file system, and it worked fine w/his system at the time.

true, there is no point of using winLH if it's not fully functional yet. but i just want it to see what it looks and feels like in comparison to winXP.

I read the reviews of previous betas and they were just yawn fests really...I anticipate perhaps I will do the same.... XP works just fine right now...

what was expected by MS:
"Microsoft is expected to recommend that the "average" Longhorn PC feature a dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz; a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM; up to a terabyte of storage; a 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port and an 802.11g wireless link; and a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today"
But you can assume they would cater to older hardware as well just wont run as good...
this is likely mid to fall 2006 release....
You can find beta's on sites we can't mention here.
Or through the MS beta / devlopers programs....
