Help with my GF FX 5500 PCI can't update driver

Several months ago I bought a geforce FX 5500 pci, yea my computer is a dinosaur, but I got it installed and running w/o too many problems, I can play half life 2 and doom 3 w/ no problem. Well the problem comes when I try and update to the 7.1.8.9 driver, then I have a big problem. First I guess I should explain the fact that I'm using a dell that happly has an intergrated intel extreme graphics card on it that I could never disable even through the bios (stupid dell). But I was able to make my FX 5500 the main card used and I had no problems w/ it.

BUT!

When I install the new driver my computer automatically starts using the oh so crappy intel extreme card and won't give me the option to use the FX 5500, I checked the the device manager and it says everything is working just fine w/ my FX 5500 but windows XP just won't let me use the card anymore. XP is acting like my FX 5500 is the black sheep of the family that it has to grudgely admit is there and doing fine but othe4r wise just ignores. Now I don't know a lot about video cards so the answer could be obvious, so help please.
