All new Nvidia drivers problem

Hello
So I recently got Half-Life2 and in preperation for playing this beast, decided to update all my system/graphics drivers. The game looked great, but had a horrible in-game HANG. Not this so-called stutter, but something worse. I also noticed a few in-game artifacts, consistent with signs of an overclocked video card (which mine is not).
Then I discovered this in-game freeze (about 5 seconds long, every 4 mintues or so) occured in other games as well. I tried everything without success UNTIL I rolled back my Nvidia drivers to 67.02. Now it's smooth as butter.
I tried the official Nvidia and ZeroPoints drivers (both) and all had this in-game freeze problem. Which begs the question: What has been changed after 67.02 to cause such a headache?

My system:
A64 3000 Newcastle
DFI UT250 NF3
POV Nvidia 6800GT
2 x 512m OCZ Platinum rev2

I know the driver gurus are here, thanks in advance for any answers.

That's rather odd....when you used the DH zer0point drivers, were you using the HL2/CSS game config file that comes with it?

Also, which versions of our driver did you use? (Have you tried the 76.44?)

I tried both types of zeropoint drivers, with and without the .cfg.
Does the manufacturer of the Card have anything to do with the GPU itself? I ask because I purchased my card from a relatively unknown vendor (Point of View) and maybe they got overlooked somehow in the newer drivers? I really have no idea what I'm talking about, so forgive me if this is blatantly ignorant.

If you feel the need to say hello and introduce your self.. Please do so in This Thread.
