Is this usual with these drivers? (Temp Related)
Hello again everyone,
I have noticedlately a lot of people talking about this infamous temp bug with certain drivers.
I currently have a Gigabyte Geforce 6800GT 256mb my idle temps seems to be around 73c. The driver set that Iam currently using is the 66.97's and was wondering if these temps were due to the temp bug. My case is also pretty cool (as in cold heh, but then again it's also cool! heh) it's a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Tower, Black w/ Window and the overall system temp dosent get very high even after playing EQ2 or WoW etc.. for hours on end lol.
My main concern is with my video card temps, so if anyone knows the issues (hopefully temp bug) I'd greatly appreciate some feedback, also a pic below showing off the rather funky lookin heatsink this videocard has.

(Note: nothing is overclocked on my system and everything is using stock cooling cpu and gpu..which I dont even think I need to upgrade if you saw this heatsink...it's massive and has heatpipes, etc.. even with that after 5 hours the highest ive seen my CPU is 45c)

The temp bug is in the 71.80+ and 75.90 drivers, not the 6x drivers.

Strange...so I turn comp off and immediatly take off my side window and touch my videocards heatsink and its not even remotely hot...not even warm just mild...you'd think if it was running at 73c it would be a little hot but nope...hm...

maybe you have a faulty thermal probe?
You have a digital thermometer you could measure it with?

LoL this is rich...so I use coolbits to overclock it using optimal settings and it puts it up to
Core: 391
Memory Clock:1.08ghz
and low and behold the Gigabyte V-Tuner reads the tempature as 72c...little to no different from factory defaults....bloody thing...can anyone suggest a good program that will read temps?

Rivatuner can monitor temps.
SHOW GPU TEMPS IN TASKBAR
1- Start Rivatuner and go to the settings tab.
2- Select "Run at Windows startup".
3- Choose "via Startup folder" under the pull-down menu.
4- Select "Send to tray on close".
5- Click OK.
Now, Rivatuner always starts when you start Windows.
6- Go to the "Power user" tab.
7- Expand \Monitoring.
8- Click on the left side of "BackgroundMonitoring".
9- Double click on the right side of "BackgroundMonitoring" on the darker area.
10- Enter 1.
11- Expand \Core Temperature.
12- Click on the left side of "ShowInIcon".
13- Double click on the right side of ShowInIcon.
14- Enter 1.
15- Click OK.

try tightening the cooler too. some of them are slightly loose(just take it slow). i got several c temp drop once i did this.
& yes your temp is to high for that card. before i put my zalman on my idle was in the mid 50's & stress topped out at 80c. & that was with it running at ultra speeds.

Hmm read something interesting about the coolbits temp reading on control panel and apprently it will not show up if your video card dosent have a temp sensor in it....strange that I dont have that tab with coolbits 2 intalled, etc.. yet this program from gigabyte is reading the temps somehow...even after over clocking the temps dont budge when it hits that certain temp. After about 6 hours the temp is the same with fac defaults / overclocked I think I may play EQ2 for example for a few hours tonight..pop off my the side of my case and touch the heatsink on the videocard to see how hot it was (according to my system it has been idling about 70-73c when doing nothing..yet it wasnt even hot when I had touched it)
