i just put together a new computer but am having serious stability issues with any video card/driver i install. i originally loaded the computer with a geforce2 mx440; the system kept restarting with error reports indicating that the driver was the cause. the only driver that worked was the one integrated in xp pro cd, which i refuset o%.
i then switched to a gf4 ti4400 which resulted in even more serious instability issues. with this video card in, the system randomly locked up. although i have yet to try the 40.72 driver, considering the 3.0.8.7 nvidia and the omega driver were unable to resolve the issue, im beginning to believe the problem must be a hardware issue. im assuming one of the following: 1. motherboard agp slot possibly malfunctioning 2. os/driver issue 3. both vid cards are defunct anyone have any suggestions? tomorrow i plan on running the 4400 on friends comp to test. if it proves not to be the card im lost... current sys: soyo p4s dragon ultra p4 2.4 533 512ddr 2100 sony drives any help is welcome and much appreciating... |

Weird !!!
One question first:....Is it a Gf2 mx 440 or a Gf2 mx 400 ???(important to clearify because i dont think a GF2 made a 440). Now to the chase. Is this a from scratch newly built system ?? Is the harddrive also new ? Or was it a system that you installed before and change stuff on it now ? If you go to device manager what does it say in the display adapters slot ??(what type of card). Are there any type of drivers that came with your motherboard that you have not installed ?.......... .................................................. .................................................. .......................... Well im sure of one thing and that is that the OS is the possible cause. If it was hardware related it would have let you install at least one of those cards without problems. It sounds like the infinite loop error. Have you tried installing the Service Pack for WinXP ?? Another cause may be a hardware conflict with most possibly a sound card or if the motherboard has onboard graphics that are not disabled(you havent told us which dragon you have cause there are a few). And of course there are several bios settings that may be wrong. When you get the error at bootup does it state that its a display adapter driver issue or just driver issue?? And one more thing is what type of power supply do you have ??(in watts) .................................................. ......................... All i can see in your situation is this: If you believe that you have the required knowledge reinstall the whole thing after formating your HD and making sure that certain bios settings are correct. Or second ...take it to someone that has the knowledge to fix it. With little information you gave us its virtualy impossible to tell you what to fix. |

They can wreak havoc with your system, especially in XP! Go hunt up a good nVidia un-install guide a try again.
