DirectX Direct3D Test Fail.. and it say I stopped it before finishing!

i have installed the latest OMEGADrives for my nVidia!
my pc:
Notebook Toshiba Satellite 6100
Pentium 4 M 1.6
Ram 260 MB
nVidia GeForce4 420 Go (Omega 1.6177) (P)

i can't play any game that use Direct3D..
i can't see on full screen the Windows Media Player Effect too...
when i try to run the Directx Test for Direct3D (dxdiag) it open and then it minimizes the program.. and say "You cancelled the test by pressing a key."
in the log file of DxDiag:
D3D7 Test Result: The tests were cancelled before completing.
D3D8 Test Result: The tests were cancelled before completing.
D3D9 Test Result: The tests were cancelled before completing.
...
i really don't know what to do now!!!
oh.... and sometimes I magae to get it working by re-installing drivers or just restarting my computer.. but when I have to restart again.... doesn't
work any more

(the Direct3D work if in window mode, directDraw and OpenGL works fine!)
i think some application have a conflict with the new driver.. but... before installing the omegadrivers (with the nVidia original drivers) it works..

thanks..

i HAVE to use the official NVidia Drivers fro Toshiba or there is some way to fix the problem with Omega Drivers?
OpenGL and all works really good and better than before... so.. if there is a way.......

Give the VXG drivers a try as they include mobile support as far as I know, ours currently don't but we're working on it, or just use the official drivers from nvidia/toshiba

EDIT: You are running Drivercleaner between installs right?

i think you cannot understand

ok... now.. i try to explain everything (im not very good in english.. so.. please help me on that)...
with the official Video Drivers of my Geforce4 420 Go by Toshiba.it all works good..
but.. when i install the modified OmegaDrivers (performance profile) i have this 3 problem: (first 2 fixed)
the max resolution of my screen goes from 1024x768 to 968x768 (or something like that.. i dont remember) the result is the my laptop monitor have a black side on the right...
the solution was:
i added the following lines at the OMG_DISP.INF file under the 2KXP_INF directory (not quality or performance one), in the bottom of the [nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings] section (after the ";;; --== Omega settings for the System and CP ==--"):
;-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
;Added for fix the resolution problem of the drivers
;start------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags0, %REG_BINARY%, 3A,C4,00,00,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,36,12,64,19,00 ,40,41,00,26,30,18,88,36,00,1E,D7,10,00,00,18
HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags1, %REG_BINARY%, 3A,C4,00,02,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,36,12,64,19,00 ,40,41,00,26,30,18,88,36,00,1E,D7,10,00,00,18
;end--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

secondo problem was: when i come back from stand-by... black screen! so i modified this on the same OMG_DISP.INF file.. in the [Mobile_Tweaks] this is the change:
;-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
;modified MapOSD3ToNV from 3 to 2 for fixing a black screen returning from stand-by
;start------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HKR,, MapOSD3ToNV, %REG_DWORD%, 2
;end--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and this fix the 2 first problems...
now... i cant fix the third problem:
if i install the drivers (or reinstall) in the next reboot the Direct3D test on DxDiag (from DirectX) works good!! but at next (and all other reboot until i reinstall again the driver) i get the error "Test Interrupter by user by pressing a key" the test is not performed... exactly when i run the test it opens a windows.. then it minimize itself and close... (if i run Direct3D in a windows it works)
i found on the internet other with my same problem and different pc (and not omegadrivers) the reply of their message say to kill all process controlling HotKeys and try again... but.. i havent installed nothing new... so.. why don't work? and why it works if i reinstall drivers but only on the firs reboot???
i know it's not simple to reply if you haven't this truble... but.. dont say me... try if in this link there is something for you.. if you are smart at this try to think what can it be!
if you have some question try to ask... im a bit slow to reply becouse i haven't much time.. but i will..
i don't want to go back on Toshiba drivers 'cause they are very slow!

i don't know the VXG Drivers.. and on the OmegaDrivers.net say that it support the mobile card, too... this is not true???

for the question of DriversCleaner...
i Runned DriversCleaner.. i unistalled old Drivers... i reboot in winXP-PRO reduced mode (in italian is "Modalità (Mode) Provvisoria" i runned DriversCleaner (i followed the instruction of the tool) cleaned the Drivers.cab and the ServicePack Cab and then cleaned the drivers... but when i reboot it automatically detected my Toshiba Drivers.... i try to clean several time without no result.. so i installed the OmegaDrivers (in the readme of OmegaDrivers it don't say to uninstall the old drivers first.. i tryed to do it it don't work, i don't know why.. i suppose something strange with toshiba.. so i installed)

When you reboot make sure you are not connected to the internet as XP prior to sp2 will automatically install your drivers if connected to the internet with no intervention from you, apparently microsofts word outweighs the local users word.... other than that make sure xp is updated to DX9.0c, and try again....

sounds like some registry entry is remaining from the toshiba drivers, which wouldn't surprise me. Do the toshiba drivers show up in the "add/remove programs" list?

Go in there and remove any 'nvidia display drivers' or toshiba display drivers, or anything of the sort, then boot into safe mode ("Modalità Provvisoria") and run driver cleaner. After rebooting from that, boot into safe mdoe again and install the Omega drivers.

HERE is the link to the VXG drivers, by the way.

If none of that works, go to your device manager, click display adapters, right click your video "card" and hit properties, go to details, and then choose Hardware Ids. There you should find a bunch of letters and numbers. Give me the part that says "DEV_" and then a number (3 or 4 digits). I'll check the INFs and see if it is in there, as that could also cause the drivers not to stick.

EEK! understanded

So...
im here again...
i haven't tryed the VXG yet... but i understand why it don't work..... or... better: i understand where the problem can be...

i was searching around in some forum... and i found a similar problem of mine...
so.... they was saying to try kill all application for hotkey or something like that...

i opened my task manager.... and... i found that if i kill the "00THotKey.exe" the direct3D work again... and work in the next reboot... but again don't work when i reboot a second time!

(again sorry for my english.. i hope u can understand me, if not please tell me)

so... if you search around you will find that "00THotKey.exe" is an utility for Toshiba Satellite that use the front Buttun Play, Stop, etc... IT'S NOT TRUE on mine.. i don't have such buttons... this application let me change the Video Output from LCD to TV etc... or for reducing or rising up the Lightning..... i need this!

so... here's the problem.... now... i would like to understand why with the toshiba driver(very OLD --> half life 2 go to crash while loading and i have to reboot my pc) i don't have this problem.. i think they have done some strange tweak to his driver... like the resolution one..

can you explain me why the changes i speaked last time (HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags0 ...) fix the resolution prob? and why the other one (HKR,, MapOSD3ToNV ...) fix the return from stand-by black screen (note that with that change i have a half-second black screen when i login after rebooting)... and... why 00THoyKey.exe minimize the direct3D only with new driver? why it work on the first reboot?

i would like to start understanding all this.. can anybody explain? or tell me where to go for learn how to tweak so i can teach myself?

the only thing i understand is that Toshiba do strange thing with his driver and don't update them! (...)

thanks for your help...
