Omega drivers causing me some major problems!
I have a GeForce 6800 GT, 256 mb, 256 bit.
Full story:
I installed the Omega (Quality 1.61.77) drivers, and on the CS:Source stress test I got an average of 114 FPS, respectively. This provided a slight boost of performance as opposed to my former 104 FPS. However, when I went to play a DVD in my computer, the bottom half of the screen was messed up. So, I uninstalled the Omega drivers and reinstalled the regular nVidia ones. The DVD worked fine after that... but, when it came around to playing games again, I re-installed the Omega drivers (again, Quality). For some reason, I got 109 FPS on the CS:Source stress test. Dumbfounded, I tested it in-game. I lagged a whole bunch more than earlier in certain parts where before I did not lag at all, even with the regular nVidia drivers. So, I uninstalled the Omega ones and reinstalled the regular nVidia ones, and to my surprise I got a 122 FPS score on the stress test... odd. I still lagged in many parts where the Omega drivers lagged, but not nearly as much (20-30 FPS to 40-50 FPS), and in some spots I lagged INSANELY with the reinstalled Omega drivers (In Half-Life 2, both in the areas right outside Kleiner's lab and in the room where you meet that British guy with the RPG gave me about 12 FPS).
WHAT'S THE DEAL?! How can I fix it?! It's driving me nuts!!! Hell, I even lag on Call of Duty now, and I'm not provoking this in any way - even running with the lowest graphics stats I still lag to hell!
Thanks in advance,
Schtoogie

first off, did you use driver cleaner to remove the old drivers?
second, don't use the omegas. they are based on the old 61.77 officials. there are so many newer betas that perform better. try the 66.93 officials, then go from there.

Agreed, I have a new 6600gt and I had problems with the Omega's. Take MiDKnYtE's advice and use the 66.93s or the 71.20 beta's. I think that there might even be a newer beta, the 71.22, but I have not used them yet. Use coolbits 2.0 or rivatuner if you wanna squeeze a few more clock cycles out of your card. I have been using coolbits and have had good luck with it.
~~edit: I just saw as I submitted this reply that there is also a 71.24 beta out there too.

Phew, so there IS a solution...
Where can I get this "driver cleanup" thinger?
BTW thanks a ton!
EDIT: Uh, I went into add/remove programs and uninstalled them that way, then rebooted and installed again...

I don't know what this infatuation with Omega drivers is. I haven't use 'em on an nvidia card in a while (ATI is a different story). I give the guy credit, though. It's hard to keep up with all the nvidia beta insanity.

Alright, it works a lot better now - I'm using 66.93... There doesn't seem to be much of a difference (if any at all) between these drivers and the 61.77 ones. Anybody know about the differences?

Alright, total BS here...
CALL OF DUTY LAGS LIKE HELL!!! Even on the lowest possible settings. HL2 fares far better, but I don't play it nearly as much as COD.
How the HELL do you get rid of this Omega crap?!

did you run DC or not? you gotta remove the old card, boot to safe mode, then run DC.

I followed the directions, but I didn't physically take my card out of the computer. I removed it from the device manager.
If I take the thing out of the computer then how the hell am I supposed to see what I'm doing?

You don't need to remove your card physically from your PC. If you followed the detailed instructions included in the Driver Cleaner Utility then that is the most you can do on that end that I know of. How about you post your computers specifications up here so we can try and step back and look at the big picture. What kind of processor, speed/amount of ram, motherboard, etc...

Alright, here are my specs:
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT
AMD 64 FX-53 2.4ghz with Hyper-Transport
512mb x2 of PC3200 dual channel
nForce3 chipset, model GA-K8NSNXP-939
Using onboard sound, but I have a (broken) Audigy2ZS Platinum Pro
I do believe that is it... Remind me of anything I forgot...
In the meantime, for additional info here is a copy of my DxDiag.txt:
http://www.geocities.com/schtoogie/DxDiag.txt
And here is a copy of my DxDiag.txt BEFORE I tried to install the Omega drivers:
http://www.geocities.com/schtoogie/DxDiag_old.txt
I think the problem is that it's not even recognizing I have ANY drivers installed at all. I'm lagging with lights - you know, ceiling lights, and those little "seeker" dudes in Doom 3... I used to lag with both of those when I first got this thing set up and didn't install the new drivers.

Well, it did
I thought system restore would zap me back to the point where I installed windows, but... anyway, it was a shock and delight and relief to see that it wouldn't do that. Hell, with these 66.93 drivers, I'm doing 50x better than before! And that was before the Omega ones, with the official 61.77 drivers. I'm guessing it's that Directx9.0c support
