Vampire the Masquerade problem

I've got a pretty mediocre card, the Geforce 5200, and in Vampire Masquerade the game literally ran smooth as silk (I was very suprised and pleased) till about 45 mins in, it began raining in game and the game began to chug along HORRIBLY, im talking i went from about 45 - 55 frames down to like 15-20 frames a second... Are there any drivers that might help me out with this? Im not entirely sure how it works, so any help would be appreciated, thanks.
