??? Constant Window Transparency Errors - Please help

Sometimes the window transparency (with nView enabled) works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, it pops an annoying error up that says another application is using Direct3D. I have no idea what program it's talking about. Sometimes it will start or stop working even though I have not launched or closed any other program.

It seems to temporarily fix it if I simply go back to the Welcome screen via Switch User and then come back to my session, even though I haven't closed a single program. But, after a period of time, usually a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, the errors resume and transparency and nView fail again.
Is there any way to figure out what programs are using Direct3D, or at least what programs nView thinks are using Direct3D, so I can decide if I want to kill it in order and keep my window transparency working? Is there any other way to just force nView to work?

Also, this is annoying because the equivalent app for my ATI card (Hydravision) on another computer seems to always work for all apps. Any way to get equivalent performance from nView?

I had posted pretty much the same question a few weeks ago (but with less information) and got no response. If this is not the right forum for this question, I'd appreciate if someone could point me to the right place.
Thanks for any help or insight,
Colin
