Help please. Regarding Bios and Gfx Card
I've updated my Bios, express and Iflash for my Intel P4 Motherboard D845EBG2. I've read many guides on how to disable shadowing as well as caching under my Bios setup but here's the catch......i can't seem to find those options anywhere at all. Reason is because i can't seem to play any of the recent games that have been coming out. I always seem to reach a location and i get a BSoD saying disable my caching and shadowing under my Bios. I use a FX 5200 with 128mb ....my com is a P4 2.40 ghz with 256 ram ...i run under XP and i have the latest nvidia driver. I also have both Windows Service Packs.
Any ideas fellas ? This pc is starting to make me feel suxx0rz.

Both Service packs?
As far as i know Xp only has 1 service pack, maybe the problems lies in the service pack 2 beta.

look in the manual if you have one for the motherboard.if you can't find them it could be possible there not there.
is the pc a pre-built system... if so the usually have limited bios options.

It should be pre-built. I didn't buy the com ...my dad bought it for me when he heard that i wanted to build my own com. Any idea on how to upgrade my BIOS in order to get those additional options that enable me to disable shadowing and stuff ?

if you have just updated your bios then there will be no option to do so.im presume it is the latest bios version.
bios updates don't usually add new options, mainly just new coding for newer hardware such as cpu/memory/boot sequence etc.
Just a note,it's much better to build you're own out of separates, that way good motherboards will have all the most used options.
i found that myself as i used to have a pre-built comp myself.hardly any options in the bios.which made even more of a problem to update the bios, could not pin point the exact mobo it had.

According to my friend, he says that Intel doesn't allow the changing of Bios and additional options to prevent overclocking. Is this true ?

can't say for sure but i have heard similar about the odd mobo.that is one of the differences between pre-built mobos to good mobo's also.

Intel brand boards (except for one board of note - very recently released) were never designed for overclocking.
That being said, it's possible the problem with your game going BSOD on you has to do with the chipset drivers. Try finding the latest chipset drivers at Intel's site for your particular model mainboard and install them - it may solve your problem. The message you're getting is indicating a bios problem, but it's possible the problem could actually be the chipset drivers - which is different... Intel's site looks to be down at the moment or I'd give you the link...

according to the search results on intel which is up by the way.the chipset use the same drivers as my abit is7-e 865 chipset.
so according to yours is 845 chipset and the drivers are dated way back in 2003.
but you can download a much newer version via one of my news posts here.
Dated: May 07, 2004 and are pretty good drivers.

*EdiT* - Downloaded the latest driver...still hasn't fixed my bios options. Thanks alot though. Might need to change to a new motherboard ..most prolly AMD

The chipset driver is not intended to increase your bios options - you would need to get a bios update from the manufacturer - and as stated earlier - would not likely give you the shadowing options you were talking about in your initial post. Manufacturer bios updates are given mainly to correct problems that have been reported by users, they don't really want to give you more options because it means more tech support calls to them when someone "messes" with the settings.
The chipset driver reference was given to fix to the BSOD you were getting in the games you were playing and to make your computer run more smoothly overall...
Hope your BSOD is gone - check by playing the game you were having trouble with, and you are most welcome for the help - our pleasure...

the drivers i gave you are only software drivers to enable windows to operate the hardware connected.
bios is separate from windows as i said earlier, and swimtech gave a good description.
as i said earlier bios updates don't install new options.just tweak what is already there.if any options do not show in the bios then there is simply no option to change them.
sorry you're problem did not get sorted out.
you mentioned going amd.why not consider changing the mobo if you want a overclock-able system.
and for your thanks..... no problem.
