Frame drop with Geforce FX5600 Go

Hello,

i have a Toshiba SP10-554 Laptop with a built in GeForce 5600 Go graphics card.

I usually play NBA Live 2004 on this machine. There is a problem i have there though.

When starting to play i get frame rates of 120 fps (im using fraps to see fps). After 5 min. of playing or so, the frame rate drops
to about 50 fps ?? How can this be?

Im playing with power connected, and im using a programm called SpeedSwitchXP, to make sure the CPU runs at full speed all the time.

Any hints?

Thanks in advance.

Chances are the P4-M is slowing down.
It has built in heat sensors, so no matter what Speedstep is set to it will still slow down, when it heats up.
This is a safety feature that stops the CPU from cooking as laptops obviously can't have gigantic heatsinks.

Run some benchmarks when the laptop is first switched on, run the game for a while then run benchmark again.
Best to run a CPU tester like Sandra (you can also run it burn in test for a while to crank the heatup)

There isn't much you can do about this, other keep your laptop as cool as possible and the fans on. (if programable).

Pieter.
