Really dark monitor
my brother's got a really dark monitor on his computer, it's so dark that you can't play cs even when the gamebrighness is set to the max, it looks even darker then blade2
I know i can change brightness for games in rivatuner but that really sux(doesn't work for sof2) , everythings ok in cs but when you return to windows the brightnes is set to default and you always have to set it back , my bro is really getting tired of that shit. I'm now looking in those monitor drivers and in nvidia drivers to change the default brightness but never did something like that and can't find anything,or should I maybe try to change something in the bios of the tnt2pro. So Omega , Cyborg or anyone else I'd like your help, tell me what to do please.
(don't tell me that my brother has to buy a new monitor, he's 13 years old )

Ok, first question.
What is the brand and model of the monitor in question? And what drivers do you currently have installed for it?

I had this problem on my older monitor - Panasonic 4G. The only way to solve it is to use NVIDIA drivers to increase brightness, there is no other way, only if your monitor can be additionally adjusted when you open it.

Had you the problem that the brightness was set back to default after running a game ?
Anymore info about opening the monitor to adjust it?

This cant be driver related guys.
Any monitor has a preset brightness.
We usually turn down a monitors brightness to make it easier on the eyes but ive never heard of such a problem before.
If its a driver problem try taking a screen shot and taking to another PC to look at it (on a floppy disc etc.) and if it looks ok there that means you have a hardware problem.
Have you installed any type of software that would tweak your colors /brightness etc. ??
Maybe your gamma is turned down to much(this one could really lower the brightness) or even the contrast can lower the brightness a bit(mostly making it sharper).
But i would look at the monitor connection in general (cable if not fixed and the connectors on both ends incase of a bent pin etc.)
Its really weird that a 2 different monitors could do that(i dont think so) so i would bet its the cable(if you used the same one ) or even the vid card.
If you put in your pc your brothers vid card does it still do it ?
did this happen all of a sudden or did it happen gradually ??
I know i ask alot but its not really something common enough to come straight out
with an answer so we try to make a picture of your machine in our heads
so making it easier to understand .
Too many variables or reasons for something like tis to happen and its hard to
do anything else but assumptions and maybe pushing you in the right direction to see the cause yourself.
If you do figure it out please post your solution.

It's not the vid card or drivers , it's the monitor that isn't bright enough ( used my flatron795ft on his computer and all was normal- no low brightness)
when my brother bought this monitor second handed it was already like that(with low brightness), but it only costed 10€ ,
he bought it from my dads company who sold all there old computers, the monitor must be about 4 years old
Maybe I can change something in the registry to set the default brightness higher, but can't find anything like that.

Well if thats the case then there aint much you can do.
There is a thing called fosphorus that loses its strength thus your
monitors brightness is the first to go.
Its something like old age of a monitor.......not kidding.
You might get a tube and replace it (used again cause new costs as much as a whole monitor).
You cant tweak the registry to do something thats not there(your monitor has no more to give)
Actually over setting the brightness can have a reverse effect of the monitor burning out totaly.
If you have a buddy with workbench knowledge you can ask him to open it up and
tweak the tubes voltage trimmer a bit or its lumminous(i think thats its name) but be warned the life of the monitor will become much shorter.
A tip:
NEVER buy a used or old monitor cause it may be cheaper but:
Its older technology thus not having the best filters etc.=bad for the eyes.
and offcourse the problems that you are having right now.
People say that the CPU is the heart of the system but ive come to see in the long run
that its the monitor and this so because the CPU might be upgraded every little while but the screen remains the same.
When i have friends asking about a new system the first thing i tell them is to get a GOOD monitor .
If your gonna get a system to do a bit of office work (not all day ) them sure get a cheap one but if your gonna use it for gaming, dvd, video or pic editing etc. dont you want to enjoy yourself and go to bed WITHOUT a headache?
One more thing:
Dont get a LCD for gaming....they suck and cost way too much plus you can get 2 19inch CRT screens for the money of one LCD(and i mean a 15 inch too not a 18 inch...wow thats forbiden).
nuff said....for now

I totally agree with you greekrage, it's very important to buy a good monitor .It's dumb when people buy a really fast cpu, videocard and buy a sucky monitor cause they've already spent too much money on the rest.
An lcd monitor sucks indeed for gaming, but they don't cost so much anymore ( 350€ for 1)
I don't care about shortening the monitor's life, as long as it worked decent for some time , it only costed as much as a crappy keyboard
