??? Did anyone use a driver removing...

Hey,
Did anyone bother using a driver removing program, when upgrading drivers from 45.23 (Or whatever ones was the latest one before 52.16.) to 52.16? I'm looking for one, besides DriverCleaner, that works with the newer drivers. I've read some problems regarding DC and a certain .inf file that seems to prevent the installing of a new driver around, and am weary of using it.

Thanks.

This has happened to me (I mentioned it the other day on a thread in this very room).

They way I got round it the second time (first being a format and fresh install of windows) I think was to make sure I had the drivers unpacked in a folder. When it mentions the fact that it can't find a required inf file and asks you to find it, just point it to the nvidia/driver version folder and it should work.

I'd still get a few more responces yet before you go risking it though because it could have easily been something else.

driver cleaner actually works very well and "spike" is the forum member that actually makes them and updates them on a fairly reguler basis.

there is a file called det destroyer from www.3dguru.com i think.but the last i looked it were 98/me only no xp version.

no dis respect method1 just about most users will say never overwrite old drivers it is best to have a clean install of drivers.

this is one of the best routes to do so and already posted several times today.

1) Download driver cleaner http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/ then install.

2) Open driver cleaner then find the option "cab cleaner" then use. This removes the old 27.42 drivers from sp1.

3) Remove drivers from add/remove option.

4) when asked to restart do so but when restart hold f8 then select "safe mode" from options given.

4) When in safe mode open driver cleaner for a second time then select "NVIDIA” then press clean. This removes any INF files windows leaves behind.

5) When complete reboot to normal, if cab cleaner is successful you should get the add hardware window instead of installing above drivers (27.42).

6) Disable any anti virus software.

7) Locate & install 52.16 dets.

Reboot and things should be fine.

You might have conflicts from overwriting previous drivers NEVER DO THAT.

Hope that sorts out your fault.

Ps after option 5 you might be worth reinstalling dx9.0b and the latest chipset drivers for your mobo.

may take a little time but is more benificial that way.

could be several things.

system hangs, artifacts during game play, can run slower.

i must say i used to do the same as you but after being on this forum since DEC 02 i have picked up a few things.

i have a few errors,screen of death a occasion.

windows don't overwrite the drivers fully that way. differences in code/inf's are newer etc.

drivers could be misread if only overwrote that you could think you're using new drivers but could actually use older ones without noticing hence some might say no increase in stability/performance etc.

beleive me i have been there with errors and had to do a few formats and xp installs afew times becouse of it.

i use driver cleaner no problems unless i'm useing "just released beta's" and you can't blame anyone for that....

and the inf issues you speak of i've had that error with unofficals .. i installed the officals and the problem went away... has to do with beta drivers
