PLEASE HELP ME! Geforce4 mx440 woes.

Ok i know its a sucky card, blah blah, but this is a recent problem, and all the people i know with the same card havent had any problems like these.

Im sorry if this has been posted before, but someones gotta help me. This shit is driving me nuts, and i have no idea what is causing it.

The problem is things clip at distances. Water against the shore, models against the terrain, etc. Its gotten to bad that in some games like bf42, entire lakes clip and disapear when flying over them in a plane! This has only been happening for about a month now and i have tried everything i can think of aside from reinstalling the card, which i really dont want to do.

Here is an example of the problem on a smaller scale:

You can see the bunker clipping into the terrain, which is even worse while moving.

^thats a pic from early may, everything was fine. If i go to that ridge now, i will see all sorts of problems with those boats washed up on shore.

PLEASE HELP ME! ANY input at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

what drivers are you using? have you tried removing them & reinstalling? or was that what you were referring to when you said " aside from reinstalling the card, which i really dont want to do." unless some of your settings have been inadvertentley changed, that is the 1st thing i would do.

Did you use a driver cleaner proggy like our very own here at DH. Also what are your temps? The card could be getting hot. I would recommend using Drivercleaner, reinstalling drivers and video card. Then take the side off your case and see if that helps any. A few more questions what OS are you using? What version of DX? When did this problem start exactly? ie. any proggy or hardware changes since.

When in install new drivers, i just install over them, could this be the problem?

Also i have taken the side off of my case, that didnt help.

Im on windows xp, and using DX9. Its hard to pinpoint when the problem started because i hadnt played BF42 in a long time, and when i booted it up one day (about a week or so ago) i noticed wierd clippings in the tops of houses, then i started noticing it in more and more places.

Someone mentioned on another forum that it sounds like a problem known as "z-fighting"

Could this be the problem, and is there a cure?

Well it can't hurt anything. D/L Drivercleaner HERE . Uninstall Nvidia drivers like you normally would then run drivercleaner for Nvidia drivers. Reboot and install driver version of choice. Also make sure your game is up to date as well. They have a ver. 1.2 patch out. It may be what you call z-fighting but it is kinda odd it all of a sudden started happening as best as you know. Although BF1942 is buggy to start with. You might try to reinstall it and see what happens.
