nVidia GeForce 6800 XT 128mb
i can't seem to find the correct driver for this graphics card. every driver i download doesn't seem to work, ya know? i've looked at run>dxdiag>display to see if my driver version updates when ever i change my driver, and it doesn't. when i reinstall a driver for my graphics card, i uninstall it from add remove programs, restart, use drivercleaner, restart, then install the driver, restart, and then go from there. doesn't seem to work though. what's the correct driver i need for a Asus nVidia GeForce 6800 XT? im going to try out 169.21 ... the thing is, is i've tried this driver before and the version pulls up as 6.14.0011.6944 on DxDiag>Display, i thought it would say 169.21?

Welcome to DH.
Driver versions listed on the OS will not match the naming convention. I believe for nvidia, the last 4 digits are the indicator (in your case, 69.44).
Are you getting any errors when installing?

no, the driver installation is fine. no errors, no nothing. the thing is, im trying to update all of my drivers for world of warcraft. but you know, you can't play that game if anything in your computer is remotely flawed. i don't understand what the deal is with my graphics card & driver. it's a pretty ancient card, maybe i just need an upgrade? what drivers would you recomend? also, am i installing the drivers correctly?

You seem to be installing correctly, and those drivers should work just fine. Also, if you just play WoW, that card is more than sufficient. Other than what dxdiag is saying, have you tried running the game to see if you are getting corruption?
I'm not really sure where the problem is. Maybe try giving the Omega drivers a shot.

well, i gave the omega drivers a shot. to be specific: OmegaDrivers.net - Home of the ATI & NVIDIA Omega Drivers. NVIDIA Windows XP/2000 i downloaded that one. i installed it correctly, and even used Drive Cleaner before installation. it didn't seem to work. my computer booted up fine, but when i entered the desktop upon boot up, 10 seconds later my screen turned black. i was unable to do anything. i had to start up in safe mode to delete the driver and reinstall the standard nvidia driver. am i downloading the correct omega driver?

I think there's something wrong with your Windows Operating System, that's why you get a blackscreen every time after you have installed a new driver, even when you have uninstalled the forceware drivers in the correct way before and have cleaned the old drivers in safe mode with driver cleaner (the 2006 version was the last that was for free) + using cab cleaner?). A clean installation of Windows should fix the problem.
Good luck!
