Problem with Omega Drivers

OK, I'll try to give as much info as I can in here in the hopes that a solution can be found.

Sempron 2800.
AGP 256mb Geforce 7600GT.
1.5gb ram.
Gigabyte GA-K8U motherboard.
Windows XP Professional w/ Service Pack 3 RC1 installed.

I downloaded the new (169.21 based) Omega Drivers with a view to trying them out. I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers as well as the registry entries etc left behind. After a reboot, I installed the Omega Drivers and rebooted again. This is where the problems started.

When Windows restarted, it crashed shortly after getting to the desktop with either a black screen or a multi-coloured smear of rubbish. Rebooted into safe mode, uninstalled the Omega drivers. Rebooted, reinstalled the Nvidia drivers (169.21 as before). Rebooted again, system crashes upon reaching the desktop. Booted into safe mode yet again and reinstalled my motherboard's agp drivers. Rebooted again and everything appeared to be fine.

This is where problem number 2 showed up. Whenever I try and run a game (currently installed is Call of Duty 4, Darkstar One and FIFA Manager 08), all I get is a black screen, although I can hear the sound from the games. The only way to get out of the games is to alt-tab out and kill the game via Task Manager. I have tried uninstalling, cleaning out and reinstalling my drivers (including different Forceware drivers), I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the games. I have tried reinstalling the latest Direct X redist from Microsoft's website.

None of these things have worked. Right now it appears that my only solution is to reinstall Windows, however I don't particularly want to have to do that unless absolutely necessary.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

well i am not 100% sure what the problem is but if i had to pick something i would say it is SP3. i have learned from my way of doing things never install a beta that Microsoft puts out. you are just asking for problems. have you tried to install anything other then 169.21 drivers say maybe the 169.13s see if that works.

I've tried numerous driver revisions, didn't make a difference. Incidently, I'm inclined to rule out SP3 because the exact same problem occured under SP2 when I tried it earlier.

As I said two days ago, it isn't because I have since tried it under SP2 and the result was the same.
