TNT2 M64 Problem

Hello Everybody:

Snce I'm new here, I'll welcome any suggestions about my problem. Thx in advance.

Let me get to the point. My current system:

P3 550MHZ 512KB Cache
Intel 440BX2 MOBO
256MB RAM (PC - 100)
ETC
eTC
etc
Windows XP Pro SP1

Well...I "upgraded" my video card from a S3 Savage 4 PRO (Diamond Speedstar A90) to a Chaintec TNT2 M64. The clocks are at 100/125...but you know an OC can't stay there...so I got them to 150/160. everything working fine since january. Proper cooling, etc. The problem is, that it is supposedly to show 32 MB of Video RAM...but it shows 16MB!!!. that happened when I upgraded the microsoft included drivers to 40.72. Even using the NFR from Guru 3d and reinstalling the latest rivers, windows doesn't show the numbers properly. I tried to install linux and 98 and it reported al the memory I supposedly have. I read there are limitations that are fixed in the 4x.xx series of DET drivers..but...

I know my PC is quite old. But...well...some day will be my day.
Thx

Is that AGP?
If so, what size is the BIOS AGP aperture set to - if that is 16, try 32.

Does it announce the right figure at bootup?

Hey buddy...my comp isn't too old... Well...it is AGP 2x and running at AGP 2x. agpaperture is set to 256 MB, so I can't think is the AGP aperture.

Oh, btw, it actually says at boot up that the card has 32 MB of SDRAM. I've changed with another one yeesterday...same model, same manufacturer and had the same prob.

A 256Mb aperture with only 256Mb of RAM might be causing some odd effect.

I'd suggest lowering to 128, maybe 64 - I have a Geforce 2MX (later than TNT2) and that seesm not to use any more than 128, even if I set 256 (I have 384Mb total)

I recall some oddity with the TNT2 M64, but only mentioned in a rather unreliable tweak guide....
- Disable AGP support registry entry - now that's GOT to be a last resort!

Is the DirectX version matched to the drivers - not sure it's critical, but I've always used them matched (DX9 for x.14 drivers) - and I did notice some wierdness once when the driver was higher than the DX version (for an S3 Savage 4 - Dx7 driver / 4.12.xxxx and Dx6 lost some of the acceleration settings in DXdiag)

I also suggest setting the AGP aperture to 64; you should look for any video bios upgrade from Chaintech.

Matth: Drivers are omegadrive's last release. I tried downgrading the drivers to 30.x series but the same problem. also, the aperture just can be set to 64 or 256 (pretty limited due to my board). Hundreds: I'll look for a video bios...until then...I give you my thx....
