7800 GT help?
Hi
i recently bought the game called Two Worlds - and it runs perfect performance-wise - but the trees that are a bit away from my character are flickering... at that point i was just running the normal drivers that came with the card... then i tried to install the 93.71 drivers - then my screen goes black after the windows loading screen then i tried the 93.81 Beta drivers - they got me into windows - but my computer then reboots when i try to run the game so - i'm kinda stuck here... can you tell me which drivers i should get for my 7800GT? to fix the tree flickering problem? |

well, if you have tried those other drivers and you can't even get into windows, that's the first proplem you should attack first.
did you remember to uninstall the old drivers first before installing the current drivers? You have to do this before installing a different set of drivers, despite if the drivers being installed are newer or older. You might want to check out a program called DriverCleaner if you haven't tried it. If you have already tried all that and it still doesn't work, then i suggest trying to use another PCI-E video card in your machine to see if all the problems go away. Or maybe, try this video card in another machine to see if the problems persist. If either case is true, then your card is faulty. At that point, you should see if your card still is under warranty by the manufacturer. If it is, you will need to submit an RMA for the card. If either case is false, then there is something else wrong wrong in your machine giving you these issues you are experiencing. oh, and btw, welcome to DriverHeaven

Hi, and thank you - both for the reply and the welcome!
![]() to answer your questions: yes i did uninstall the previous drivers with drivercleaner before installing the new ones. but i'm afraid i have no other PC with a PCI-E board to try the card in - and i don't have another PCI-E card to test with either (i'm not that rich) - so i can't really figure it out that way... got any other suggestions? - or is that like the only option i got? |

is there anybody you know or any relatives that has a PCI-E machine?
and you don't need to have another 7800GT or better video card. just another plain, simple, and boring PCI-E card to do the trick .

all the people i know (that lives like relatively close to me) aren't really into gaming - so they all have "work" computers with like onboard graphics and all that.. (maybe a little better - but not PCI-E)

well, i guess what you can do then if you can't test the card out any further, is RMA your card, and if the issues are gone, then you know it was the card. if the issues persist, then it's not the card.
btw, i forgot to ask earlier. what kind of PSU do you have installed? what brand and model is it, how many watts does it put out, how many amps does it put out on the 12v rail? That's also important to know as it may be PSU related, and not even gfx card related at all. But, a weak PSU, would have already caused the damage and would require you to change out both the PSU and the gfx card.

Disable AA and v-sync (or enable v-sync if it is off). Also disable AF.
Try to see if there is any difference.

the PSU is a "Chill Innovation CP-520A4 - 520W"
not sure about the info on the Amps... it says 12V=20A(yellow/black) - but it also says 12V=18A (yellow) and a lot of other values for different colors.. Last edited by itzi; May 15, 2007 at 09:42 AM. |
