Problems with beta 158.18

Hi all
I downloaded the latest Nvidia beta drivers, read the install instructions carefully, and then attempted to install the files. In the middle of installation I suddenly experienced the vista blue screen of trouble. A lengthy error message then appeared. As I was writing the information down my computer decides to reboot. What I could get copied had some reference to shadowing and cache. The system booted into Vista normally. The Nvidia control panel does not function either. Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. At the moment I'm running the 101.41 drivers.

that happened to me on the 100.65s. I just went to safe mode, ran drivercleaner and then reinstalled.

Thanks for the advice. I booted my system into "safe-mode" and deleted the drivers using Platnium Driver Cleaner. I installed the beta 158.18s with no problems. However the Nvidia Control Panel doesn't function. I get the error message "Nvidia control panel application 1.4.100.36 has stopped working".

thats because you used Driver Cleaner on an nforce system

Drivercleaner on Vista is only going to cause problems (and this is coming from the NV guys themselves) as it is removing portions of the chipset drivers as well

you'll need to uninstall the chipset drivers as well and reinstall them.

I just used the installer provided with the driver. It uninstalled the old, rebooted, and installed the new. TE.

Appreciate the advice. Also there is a known issue with my particular video boards and the 158.18 drivers. Opening the Nvidia Control Panel will cause it to crash..I've located the latest chipset drivers from Nvidia for my mobo and downloaded them. Is there an easy walkthrough on how to install these or any do's and don'ts involving this procedure? I'd appreciate any assistance anyone can give. Thanks in advance.

There were some teething issues initially with driver cleaner on vista which as far as I know have been resolved (the fact we have had over 100,000 downloads and very few complaints would seem to verify this), however you seem to be extremely outspoken about this on our forums. Here is what I want from you. A PM from yourself, with the build you ran, the hardware configuration (DX LOG would be ideal), the issues you had, and if you ran the newest build. I also want names of these "nv guys" you mentioned, because if they are nvidia staff we communicate with them all in email and its the first i have heard of it.

In the meantime id appreciate if you posted nothing more negative about Driver Cleaner on our forums, especially until I personally can research your grievance.

This has actually happened to several of our test systems, as well as the new driver causing HD TVS to force 720p rather than 1080 (I have seen this particular problem myself). This has nothing to do with you running Driver Cleaner. (the same panel issue happened to us on a system that has never ran driver cleaner and isnt on an nforce chipset).

Have you tried the 158.14 set? these seem to work with many people who are having issues with 18. and the driver is basically the same, its just the installer method is different. Nvidia have created a new deinstall/installer package with .18.

If you are having problems get in touch with me via PM and ill do my best to help you.

Zardon

I appreciate your interest and help. I will certainly give the new drivers a go and see what happens. On another note in the release notes for the 158.18's there is a known issue with my particular video boards and when opening the Nvidia control panel = it crashes

ok, did you try the slightly older one as I said 158.14? they seem a little more stable. they were the drivers reviewers were sent out before the 158.18 was offically released with an updated de/installer.

The email on your account on Driver heaven does not relate to any purchase of DC.net so im guessing you are using an older version which is not meant to be used on Vista and is not supported or updated anymore. the cleaning files are also outdated. Therefore if you are complaining about an application that is not marketed for Vista then I suggest you either pay to update or stop spreading false claims. As Zardon said get him more detailed information on your problems and we can take it from there. Apologies for the thread interuption, but this is the third time ive noticed these claims which are not correct and we have worked hard on making DC.net vista compatible and with the best and newest cleaning filters possible.

there still *ARE* issues with using driver cleaner on vista, especially if you have the Nforce 15.00 drivers installed as the network drivers make use of the nvcpl
How can you say this if you are running an older version and not DC.net which is the only supported vista version. It is clear from your account on Driver Heaven that you have not purchased DC.net, or if you have under another email then let me know and we can resolve the issues we havent seen and you are experiencing. We are here as a support site, but if people are just posting on forums that there are issues and not telling us, how can we make it better? We have sold numerous copies of this application and have a private beta testing team who have not reporting the issues you mention with using DC.net on vista. If you want to help then give me or spike more information, because right now it just seems to me as if you have a personal issue with driver cleaner and people not being able to clean their own drivers. It is a fair assumption.

i've had to fix a few machines recently due to using Driver Cleaner... i myself don't find a need for it, the uninstaller was made for a reason, driver cleaner is just overkill imho. (and no, i don't have settings kept after uninstalling... if you do, then theres another reason for it.)
Again, this is vague, which version, which machines? which operating system. Your personal opinion is exactly that, personal. The fact we have so many downloads and have been making and updating this for 3+ years shows me people do want an automated process. You seem intelligent so surely this makes sense to you. Many people would say overclocking hardware, and buying high end components or even spending 2,000 a year on games is overkill. This is just your opinion.

Quote:
i've only ever had 1 issue with nvidia drivers and that was Forceware 80.90, where halo's graphics would corrupt,.. the problem was i installed the drivers over the top of FW70 drivers, and was fixed after an uninstall - reinstall.
Ok, well thats good to hear, but this is nothing to do with the questions im asking you. Right now DC.net is our product, and I simply can not have you misinforming our members about a product we currently make and support which you apparently arent even using to base your claims on. And if you are, going by our sales records you haven't bought it.

Quote:
i think we should be explaining how to uninstall drivers more so then how to use driver cleaner.. as i and many over non-dc users have never had issues with new drivers (except for 165.01... i have no clue whats wrong with them... i think i need to go through my coolbits reg patch and see if its a problem in there.... most likely is considering the latest FW hate having the O/C panel exposed...)
I agree with you there, we do need to educate the people and in fact we try to do so, we are currently working on many guides including a step by step on building your own pc. We hope this helps people get away from OEM builds with poor installs. On the other side of the coin, if an average enthusiast is getting better results from our application and its easier to use (which is clearly is) then I think there is a place for it. I feel so very strongly, or I wouldnt have offered a place for it on Driver Heaven years ago.

Quote:
i also have a feeling, that selling a program that is made using .net is illegal.. considering its a free to use library of technologies....
You have a feeling? perhaps a bit like the very same feeling you have that DC.net wrecks systems even when you apparently havent even used the application? There are many net based applications which are on sale such as net reactor (which comes of the top of my head) - what about java apps, same thing?, however I feel right now I have wasted enough time on you. This is now a warning, and your final warning. If I see you crapping in threads about Driver cleaner again you will be removed, you are also now on my radar so i advise you to keep low on it. shame you edited your own post so slow, right?

To the thread starter, my deepest apologies once again, I hope you resolve your issues, if we can help please post, there will be no more interuptions in this thread.

I'm not sure if I understand this correctly but did you just run DH cleaner to clean the drivers without running the nvidia uninstaller first? The correct way to do it is to;

-Uninstall the nvidia drivers from the Add/Remove Programs using nVidia's uninstaller
-boot in to safe mode and run DH cleaner and then restart
-boot normally into windows and install the nvidia drivers

You make it sound like you just ran DH cleaner in safe mode without uninstalling the drivers first which is not a good thing to do. Also I would not recommend using the older Pro version on Vista. I have been using DC.net on my bros NF4/8800 system and it has not caused any problems at all and if anything, it has helped with issues.
What I would do at this point is install and uninstall the nvidia drivers without using DH cleaner(try this once or twice). Simply don't use the cleaner unless it's the new .net version. If nothing seems to be working you can try an older driver set or use system restore to restore the system to a point before all this started(if possible)
Good luck

im trying to help the thread starter in PM at the minute guys.

Also I dont want people new to DH thinking im jumping all over people. I have offered prince link a free version of DC.net so he can base his assumptions and prior problems on the newest version. He might even be able to help us improve the applcation as he says he has extensive knowledge of modding infs etc.

Hi I appreciate the help. I went into the Program and Features folder first and uninstalled the drivers. I then attempted to install the new drivers. During the install I recieved a blue screen with a lenghty error message. I was copying the error message when my system rebooted. I then rebooted the system into safe mode and used driver cleaner to remove the drivers. I then installed the new set of drivers.

I appreciate the information on the latest version of driver cleaner and have purchased it.

Ok, Zardon mentioned a 158.14 driver set? Where can one get that? I only hear mentions of it, tried googling but I can't find anywhere to actually download it.
