well i've never got the error before, but if you would like to get regmon and filemon (from sysinternals.com both freeware) then let them each make a log of what happens during the install and email them to me choggi@gmail.com. i'll take a look and see if theres anything i can find.

Just ignore it and reinstall your monitors driver .inf file.

I get this error all the time when installing new video drivers and I never had any problems.

actually one question first what happens when you just run the driver install? (run setup.exe in C:\ATI\SUPPORT\5-13_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_29124\Driver)

hah nice!

So I've been messing around with a few settings and things. I dl'ed the ATI inspector. It lists all the files and stuff that the card uses, right?

And I cleaned with drivercleaner in Safe Mode. So how could the files reappear if they werent on my computer after I cleaned, but were once I installed?

So, the installer installs the files, but it wont run them. But then I reboot (keep in mind my wireless adapter is unplugged through all this) and they files are there. But windows is saying that its using the generic drivers.

Could this mean that Windows just thinks that the drivers are generic? From what I see, I am using 5.13 cats right now...

EDIT: I checked on the CCC. I am running the 5.13 cats.

Wow, this was easier then I thought...

I used to have this problem, couldn't fix it without reinstalling windows. I found a way around it though: http://www.driverheaven.net/showpost...&postcount=113

maybe its a smartgart problem, try using the smartgart uninstaller might help.
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...-uninstall.exe
also make sure it says standard display adapter in device manager under video adapters.
