X1600 DVI port does not recognize my panasonic projector~

I have the Samsung 242mp (1920*1200) monitor and the Panasonic PTAE700

(1280*720 i.e. the standard HDTV resolution LCD panel) projector.

I want to alternatively connect the Samsung or the Panasonic to the DVI port of the

X1600 (I am looking forward to the aVivo feature and the DVI output of my PC to watch

DVD/Dvix/HD programs on my big screen). The Samsung monitor is for other computing

purposes.

Now here is my problem, the Samsung monitor is recognized by the computer and I get all

of the resolutions displayed just fine even without the accompanied monitor driver

installed (getting 1920*1200 using the 2meter single link DVI cable).

However, when I connect the Panasonic projector, there is no response by the computer

whatsoever (I first changed the resolution to 1280*720 before unplugging and

connecting the 15 meter optical DVI cable connected to the projector).

Just a blue screen on the projector and no sound on the computer indicating a

recognition of a new device (computer does not seem to even recognize that the projector

has been connected).

I tried connecting the projector to the DVI port of another computer (ATI 9800Pro) and I

do get the picture (1280*720) just fine. So I don't think it is either the DVI cable or the

DVI/HDMI gender or the HDMI port of the projector that is causing the problem.

Rebooting does does not help either.

I have heard that the problem might be the X1000 line and the latest driver (5.13)

combination that might be the problem? Something about the driver not recognizing

any EDID data once DVI cable is unplugged (even if another monitor/projector is

later plugged in). However this does not seem to apply to me because , if I plug the

Samsung monitor back in, I get the picture back.

This is very frustrating becasue I am just trying to do pretty much a standard stuff with

the DVI port of the graphics card. Plug one monitor out and plug another one in (both a

well recognized product with standard features for connecting to a computer).

I should be able to get a picture without all this hassle.

This is basic stuff that should work.

Any help out there??? Please~~

Have you tried using a different driver set yet? This would be the first thing I would try to check your "5.13" hypothesis.

Seems like you are correct about the detection failing, as you can get the projector to work right on the 9800. Just to eliminate one more thing, I would connect the projector using the 2m DVI cable you use for your monitor, unless you can not due to the fact that you use DVI-HDMI in this case.

Also, another thing I would try - uninstall all drivers, and run DriverCleaner (see canned instructions below) and then attach your projector. See if it's detected without the drivers - this may point that something with the actual X1600 DVI is not working right as well.

Let us know how it goes.

When you install new drivers, it's recommended you stick with the following scheme:
1. Download latest version of DriverCleaner Pro
2. Install DriverCleaner Pro
3. Go to Control Panel, and Remove anything ATI related. This includes any drivers, and preferrably all the tools (ATITool, ATI Tray Tools, RadLinker)
4. Reboot, while rebooting, tap on F8 key, to get the Windows startup menu. Once you have gotten into it, select "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" (if you use a domain to log in).
5. Once in Safe Mode, run DriverCleaner Pro, tick "Select Multiple Filters" checkbox, and add everything that starts with "ATI", except "ATI IGP" components. Hit "Clean"
5.1. IF you have not done so before, run "Cab Cleaner" from DriverCleaner Pro as well - this will get rid of any Windows default drivers that may interfere down the road.
6. Reboot into normal mode, and install the new drivers
6.1. If you have issues with third party drivers, like OmegaDrivers, also try ATI's official drivers. On a mobile platform, use DH Mobility Modder, as ATI does not officially provide drivers for all notebooks at this time.
7. Reboot one more time
8. Test your applications.
