Problems With Rez

Well, I recently purchased an ATI X800 xl 256mb gddr3 graphic card. It works fine but I do have a problem. My current desktop rez is 1024 by 1280. If I launch a game that is 800 by 600 and I exit the game while its 800 by 600 then my desktop turns to 800 by 600 and it only returns back to the original after a reboot. So far I have reinstalled the official drivers fully and tried 3rd party drivers (Omega). I have no clue what the issue might be. Anyone want to help?

Do you have the VPU Recover option on in advanced display options? I think I remember when I turned this on it fixed a problem similar to yours

Old games (like 16 bit ones, etc.) do that a lot; what kinda stuff do you play that causes this to happen?

Any game really. Lets say that I launch call of duty 2 and I just installed it. The defualt rez will be 80 by 600. If I exit without changing it will make by rez 800 by 600. Some games such as WarRock only support lets say up to 1024 by 768 or whatever and when I exit it will change my rez. Right now I want to do a reboot to see what the vpu off thing does.

Hmmm, try disabling anti-virus and that kinda stuff for the time being and then test out the games. Also, do you have a refresh rate forcing tool, like Refresh Force?

Run the games you play on the same rez as your view your desktop.

did you try changing the resolution in properties when this happens?

i remember this happening, it think after a game crashed i'd do that, but i just change the resolution in properties when that happened.

Hmmm, my guess is DirectX is to blame. Reinstalling should fix it, hopefully.

Well I disabled Pest Patrol, Kaspersky, Window Blinds, RainCalendar, and Sysmetrix and everything seems to be working fine. I'll be trying different combos now to see what the problem is.

Well after a couple of reboots, I determined that it WAS the window Blinds after all. So now I have to find another program to change the look of my desktop
