Catalyst AI feature request (please help)

Ati introduced Catalyst AI feature quite some time ago. The feature handles texture filtering , game specific optimisation and game compatibility improvements(workarounds).

While i think cat ai is certainly a good feature it had one major flaw since it was launched. There is no option to disable texture filtering optimisation separately from game specific optimisations.

There are often cases where i would like to disable texture filtering optimisations but not the game specific ones(there is usually no reason to do so). At the beginning where only a handful of games have been detected by cat ai it was not so a serious issue but the games detected by cat ai increases steadily and now there are a lot of them already which i think makes this kind of separation more necessary or useful. It's not possible with current implementation of cat ai.

I would like to ask all users who feel the same way as me to make a feature request to ati using their feedback form -> http://support.ati.com/ics/survey/su...D=486&type=web

An option to disable texture filtering optimisation separately from game specific optimisation and best even separate between trilinear and anisotropic filtering optimisations

Thanks and happy holidays

Well I don't think you'll get that... The thing is that AI is ALL about optimzations and either you leave AI on so that you got cool optimzations or OFF so you got none (including the trilnear optimazation)...

The problem is that in current implementation it's either all on or off. While usually game specific optimisations you don't want to disable as they add compatibility and performance without IQ change. The filtering optimisations however can cause IQ decrease and it is often desired to disable them without need to disabling the game specific optimisations also.

That what it's all about

If you don't like the idea or don't need it that's fine

I like the idea but if you look at the general trend with the Cat Drivers, less control and more streamlining, I can only tell ya this:

Good luck

H3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enough
System Specs

Actually I think its more like this:

Disabled - EVERYTHING off
Low - Game specific optimizations and non IQ degrading texture fitlers etc.
Advanced - loss in IQ

I wouldn't bother trying to get them to not do those things, I mean its part of computing: Different platforms need different optimization methods for different tasks.

I mean, where would we be without MMX, or things like 3DNow! or SSE, hell nVidia wouldn't play HL2 very well without recompiling the shaders.

I think its just part of life, and so far, if your eye can't tell the difference between optimized and non optimized then who cares?

i think its not a bad idea, but catalyst is not about the hardcore user, its about massive amounts of noobs and a few (in compairison) elite.

so function over massive confusing options? dunno about that one.... hard for such a huge place to change it.

anyways, i think tools LIKE ATT could impliment this if they get help FROM ATI to help seperate this and have it an un supported 3rd party tool.

other than that i suggest finding the games that do have a problem and do your testing and tell ATI "hey this game has this with these options, it may be a bug, need to fix cat AI" something of that nature.

Actually Cat AI goes:

Off- NO optimisations
Low- Texture filtering optimisations
High- Game-specific optimisations, more aggressive texture filter
