Catalyst 2.4 up to 3.0 Problem is back

Hello !

Catalyst 2.4 up to 3.0 problem is back. For a while ago a wrote that I had a problem with new catalyst drivers, my screen goes black when a play games. Someone told me to install compaq monitor inf drivers and I did it worked with Jedi Outcast. But when I try to play GTA 3 and Return to castle wolfenstein the screen goes black again. The catalyst nightmare is back. I have tried everything Refresh Force wont work nothing will work. Will ATI ever write good drivers. Well the Plotonium XP 8.1 based on catalyst 2.3 works fine. The problem is catalyst 2.3 is old and has problems with newer games and I rather run my computer with newer drivers.

So I hope someone could help me fix this.

Hi!

I found solution which works for me

I flashed my Radeon to Hercules and installed newest drivers, CAT 3.0a, and everything seems to work fine. I tested it with Rallisport Challenge and Wolfenstein, no Black Screen anymore

If you have not found solution yet you may try this and let me know if it helps you.

Maybe a heat problem? Check to make sure the temp of your CPU is stable. Maybe try setting your AGP aperture size to 64 or 128 if you haven't. If your system is older, or if you don't have much RAM, try rebooting before you load the game and see if that works. Hope something helps...

BIOS flashing did not help, it let me play for a while (2 races of Rallisport) and now screen doesn't go black, it comes full of vertical lines

If the games are OpenGL good luck

ATi stated that they would fix the OpenGL market with the release of the Catalyst 2.4 and still today up to Catalyst 3.0 with a no show of fixing the OpenGL Problem. If it is under Direct3d, try to override it under more help in the directx diagnostic tool.

On the other hand you have to RMA it back to where you bought the card

But if it works with Catalyst 2.3's I would stick with them until a later driver because they work fine for me. Then ati decided to add in all the extras and then more problems arised. Sound like microsoft going from windows 95 - to a pretty good Windows ME. It just takes ATi about a year to produce great drivers for their product until the time they start adding in more features which brings in more instabilities.

It will just take time for ati to fix things. Their driver crew is getting better than it was in the past. The only problem is that when I respond to them, I always never get a response back. Nvidia's partners (Xtacy) had a toll free to call for help on their videocards and would be eager to help. Enough said

I found a way to get it work

If I use the control panel from the old plutonium xp 8.1 drivers it works with the newest catalyst 3 drivers.

Chrille, did you install Plutonium 8.1+CPanel and after that Cat3.0a w/o CPanel?

I have to test something like that too
