BSOD on restart with OMEGA driver on Mobility Radeon

I'm trying to find a driver that'll allow me to do multiple-monitor display from a RADEON Mobility M6 card on a Compaq Evo N600c running Win2k SP3.

I tried the Omega/Plutonium drivers, and when I rebstarted the system it got to the "Windows is Starting Up" dialog immediately previous to the log-in dialog, sat there for a while and then I got a BSOD that very quickly went away as the computer auto-rebooted.

After a few repeats of this boot-crash-reboot cycle, I started-up in SAfe w/ NEt mode, and reinstalled the ATI drivers. Another reboot and I'm working again.

After a bit of net-research, I find the newer Omega drivers that use DX9. I install DX9 (no problems), and try these drivers. On reboot after install, I get the same quick-BSOD--reboot pattern. Re-installing the ATI drivers brings me back.

So, 2 questions:
1: can I do multiple monitors with the Omega drivers? All the other ATI-card drivers don't support this on Win2k.
2: any clue as to what's going on with my system that's causing the BSOD--reboot?

Thanks!
