EQ2 + any driver over 5.2

I love eq2, its awesome. However i can only use drivers up to 5.2 Cats, anything over that i play for 5~10mins then get a VPU recover issue.
I wouldnt mind keeping the 5.2's however i also like playing quake 4. The 5.11 drivers give me a good boost, and i can play with AA

When is the issue going to be sorted?

Amen! This is getting ridiculous. This has been a known issue since 5.6. Take a break from tweaking BF2 and just fix a retarded bug, ATI.

Seriously.

(I also know that some people have this exact same problem with DAOC, so it's not just EQ2. Also it's not an EQ2 or DAOC problem, it's an ATI problem. That much has been admitted to the devs of those games by ATI)

The more that do it the more they will know it is a major issue..... I find no reason to complain if you have not done so yet no offence just those that do not request fixes may wait till hell freezes over

Thanks Ferret. I have never really had this kind of problem with a video card before and wasn't sure how to go about reporting a "bug" to a video card company. I'm used to posting on forums related to a specific game (usually getting a quick response from a dev or fellow player that fixes the problem), or just waiting for a driver update.

There have been several driver updates though =/

Anyway, I sent them a long detailed description. Hopefully others will do the same. It's just frustrating when you hear the tech guy from SOE is getting blown off by them. I mean.. they are SOE but they aren't TOTAL idiots

(I kid)

Sony tech support... well that is kinda of an oximoron I am sure that with as many people and ati cards as they are sony or ati will fix it... The hard part is that it could be a sony issue they do not want to admit. Try turning off the AI and see if it helps. Also you can turn VPU off.

Do you mean turn off the VPU recovery? (pretty sure you don't want me to turn off the VPU )

Also, what is AI? I've never heard of that.

Nm. I was looking at the Catalyst for the old drivers. I installed the 5.11's again and see it. Thanks. I'll give this a shot.

How is this a sony issue? The game works with the older drivers, but the newer drivers dont. And taking VPU recover off feks up the pc completely - DONT DO IT.

This is annoying me. I like the latest games, and they run better with newer drivers. But i cant get newer drivers....

I have same problem (you may have seen my post) - every game (CS:S, HL2, R:TW, etc) crashes with any driver version over 5.2, including omega drivers. I have tried updating the chipset, but the problem is still there. I have also tried turning off almost every possible option, Fast writes included, and still no fix. Theres one thing i'm sure of - my next card will most certainly NOT be an ATI. I have submitted several error reports - no reply. So anyway... sorry, I can't help

Ya I have just spent my weekend trying different configurations using the 5.11 drivers. It crashes every time no matter what configuration. The kicker of it is that EQ2 (as well as my other games) run much better on 5.11 than 5.2 (go figure that out ), but the only problem with EQ2 and 5.11 is that it crashes even though it runs better lol.

I really hope this problem gets fixed soon. While I personally don't have a reason to doubt the dev guy at SOE, who insists this is an ATI issue, the fact of the matter is that EQ2 is only game I have problems with =/

I just got back from the development meeting, today, and according to the folks there, ATI's reproduced the issue, but that's the last thing we've heard on the subject.
That's a quote from the SOE rep. *crosses fingers*

I have the same problem and thought it was my PC, glad Im not alone, I cannot upgrade past 5.2 and have been religiously upgrading omegas the day they come out hoping one new release will fix this problem. I can run EQ2 for about 5 mins and get mosaic colors, a blackout and then the game will come back, this happens every ten mins or so. 5.2 works perfectly but I know the new drivers can improve my performance for eq so Im hoping someone like Omega can work this out?

I forgot to copy/paste the quote, but rest assured that ATI will have a fix for this in an upcoming release. 5.12's "fix" was an unrelated issue to the one we are experiencing here.
