I don't know what to tell you - the feature is definitely greyed out in ATI's own CCC. Why would they have the option but grey it out in these drivers? Looks like a no-go to me.

It works for me??? I've got the Adaptive AA option. All I did was edit the ASTT_NA registry entry to 0 anywhere it occurs in the registry and I get that option.

Neon, why can't people see this. Even if you could enable this feature, your core couldn't possibly process the instructions correctly if at all! The transistor count in the core of the x1k series is almost double that of the x8/x9 series. am i wrong here?

Are you guys talking about adaptive SSAA that is just on the certain transparent textures that it will benefit or full on SSAA??
I go AAA to work fine with the reg hack on the 5.9 w/ CCC, but haven't tried it since.. And yeah te X800 series has plenty of power to use it.
Also with DXTweaker full SSAA is possible at resolutions od 1024 x 768 and below no problem..

Yes.
Using DXTweak I got SSAA to work.
There are no instructions with SSAA that a 9700 or even an 8500 couldn't do...its a type of anti aliasing, not a type of HDR or some special texture type
And transistor count has nothing to do with it except how fast it executes.

If you read the X1800 preview Driverheaven did, I asked Terry Makedon specifically about this. He said that, they are currently testing the feature with the previous generation cards (X800 and down), and when they are sure it works 100% properly, they'll enable it for those as well

I told you; it's hasn't passed Q&A yet for older cards. So it's there in the drivers, and when all bugs are ironed out, they will flip a switch, so does speak, and it will be enabled.

I enabled it for my 9800xt, I can choose between quality and performance, but I think it always returns to quality
