Mayro is on a distinguished road

Add 3 more GPU's to come from ATI.

Say hello to the R521, R531 and the R516.

http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20050926A1002.html

Seriously, wouldnt it make more sense to sell just one chip type and do the yeild thing of like 10% of these are BLAH and 20% are BLAH^2?

That makes 6 cores that I know of.

If i understand right it will got renamed but will be the very same part as r520,515 and 530 series ... they only turn to UMC to product them as TMSC might not be able to keep up with production . ATI has the 7800 Launch available at forst day stuck in their throat and they probably dont want this to repeat !

Interesting.
Im still a bit confused as what ATI makes.
Do they just create the GPU architecture and have other companies manufacture them?

I wonder if it has to do with the problem with the first chips not supporting the 24 pipelines. maybe these new ones are able to handle that, without any problems.

You right on I'd say. Could be a minor revision but much more likely its as
simple as it being made at another fab. Currently for example the are R480,
R481 known as X850. It likely just denotes where they where made. All
companies do it. With AMD XP's its the tint of the core, and you could tell
what factory it was made in by the slight color. hough I'm not sure how they
do it not that they use a hea spreaders on A64's but they do mark them.

TMSC hasn't been produceing enough and UMC has won the chance to win
orders from ATI. That would other wise would have been done by UMC. What
it means to us is thier makeing sure they have a good supply of cores, So that
we have a good supply of the cards.
