problem with hl2 after 5.9 install

anybody else haveing problem with hl2 after 5.9 install??

it loads up but it dont show the hl2 menu. i cant do anything after that...

ok i think i found a fix

looks like hl2 had an update same time when i installed 5.9

Are you sure its the 5.9 driver, not todays Steam update? People have been reporting problems with the update.

Same problem here. The addition of the "-dxlevel 80" option DIDN'T help

OK...check HalfLife forum; turns out it's a Firewall issue. Whatever firewall you are using; turn it off temporarily and it will work.

Guess something changed with the latest update; and the Firewall is asking for you approval. Except there's no way to Alt-Tab to the desktop. Got to run the games (happens with HalfLife as well) in window mode so you can see the requester and acknowledge it.

Now how the heck does one run in windowed mode?

Having the same problem, turn off my firewall, all is fine, tried putting exceptions back in manually but that has not worked!!!!!

These 5.9's have not worked well for me at all

and thats odd, because i never have had a problem before the 5.9's. I rolled back to the 5.8's and after installing the 5.9's the5.8's where not working all that well either

So i did a reformat and reinstalled 5.8's clean...and now all is good again

Run the games in window mode at a resolution lower then your desktop. This way when the firewall asks about the games you will see the requester and acknowledge it. Then switch back and you should be fine.

Worked for me.
