Why, yes, I agree with you, but lots of people want faster framerates more than the best possible image quality.
Anti-aliasing can cover up a multitude of glitches and tends to help with shimmering. But as others have pointed out, apparently you can't combine MSAA with alpha-tested textures, which means that things like chain-link fences tend to look kinda ugly sometimes. I'd rather display in a higher resolution than use AA, and I'd rather turn on 8x anisotropic filtering rather than AA (the ripple effect of floors without aniso bothers me more than jaggies do, especially if your FPS is close to or better than your Vsync refresh rate)

Im just happy that I dont notice it, im a image quality guy. You know, the idiot whos running around in CSS at 35 FPS becuase he would rather suck at the game than see a choppy line?
That and this pentium 4 doesnt help much for keeping the frames up. Next processor is definatly a AMD unless intel pulls a BIG rabbit outa the hat. |

AF is supposed to combat this... and frankly I have not seen one shimmer for a few years. Till I installed the omega5.8a's.
The regular drivers were fine, but still did the texture corruption thing my card has been doing. Interestingly enough texture corruption started in other games with the fix to texture corruption in BF2. In any case I'm stuck with the dreaded shimmer in BF2, as its not as bad as the texture corruption. |

So it's only one game so far, and BF2 doesn't count. It's fubared all by itself.
