Pissed Problem with NWN

As reported by other users I'm experiencing a serious problem with NWN: whatever I do I can't get to play the game (the computer get stuck on the Loading screen).

To be honest the problem occurred even with the Catalyst 2.5 set.

Modifying the level of hardware acceleration (as it seems to fix the stuttering problems for Ogl games) hasn't had any effect.

Apparently, the only way to have NWN to work is to use the atioglxx.dll file from a pre-2.5 set.
It doesn't seem a reasonable solution! At least to me...
Any help would be really appriciated

Pausing in Wolfenstein

I am having a problem in Wolfenstein where the game will stop for 1-2 seconds and then continue. Quake III runs fine. Am using a ATI 9000 Pro with Cat 3.0 and DX 9. Have tried setting hardware accel down a notch, but pauses continue. Any ideas?? Thanks

guys, some of us at slackercentral (the 3dfxrefugees forum) have found some solutions to these problems mentioned here. Most have to do with Creative's newest drivers and some problems with officeXP interfering with display drivers (don't ask me why).

Randell reported a fix for OpenGL as easy as disabling certain options from the taskbar. Like: CTFMON, CTHELPER (thanks to Sharkfood) or digicam stuff, gamepad stuff.

While I realize this is not supposed to happen in the first place, it IS a fix.

We're still working on solving some other issues as well.

Hello hello,
I'm very sorry to hear that so many people are having problems with these drivers. From my personal experience, these seem to be the fastest and most reliable set ATI has released to date. With every update it just keeps getting better.

Before I installed this driver, I absolutely made sure my old drivers were out of the system. I did this with help from a thread in the Rage3D forum:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33606840

I also don't use any fancy tweak utils. They seem to make playing games too complicated. I just want to play, i don't want to sit around all day dickering with settings that will only get me a hardly noticeable increase in performance in the long run.

Oh and great work with the Linux driver ATI, you are my hero

Here are my system speX:
ECS K7S5A (SIS 735)
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
512 MB PC2100 RAM (Hynix)
ATI Radeon 8500 64MB (bios flashed Saphire card)
Yamaha Waveforce XG (YMF724)
Windows XP Pro SP1

Rayder has a spectacular aura aboutRayder has a spectacular aura about

Since this is a place to report problems....

DX9 and 3.0's mostly seemed fine, installed easily.

In Win98se only- Death Track Racing (AKA Rollcage 2) has a strange problem, the game will run just fine, when you exit the game, all 3D acceleration is disabled until I reboot. When you go to run Rollcage2 again, an error comes up syaing that it can't find a 3D accelerator. This has been an on-and-off problem throughout the Catalyst releases in Win98se. If I click on ANY other game after exiting Rollcage2, the system will hang. I only mention this game because it's still available in stores.

In win98se and WinXP - Big Scale Racing has developed strange text overlay problems and occasional flashing of corrupt graphics in the track environments. This game never had a problem before, it always ran smooth. Never seems to cause a crash, though.

Xenos is on a distinguished road

I have the latest catalysts 3.0 and direct x 9 and I am having the following issues in some games:

Mafia: flashing textures(quite common)
Hitman 2: flashing textures, shadows appearing and disapearing in places they shouldn't be
Medal Of Honor: random flashing textures(not as common as mafia)

I get white pixel dots (geometric cracking) in all of these games.

I have it before catalyst 3.0

When I read the thread I haven't your probleme guys... but I have make a pretty unsinstall... and install...

This procedure is for Windows XP
  • download DirectX 9, ATI Catalyst 3.0 (XP), VIA Hyperion (for motherboard with VIA chipset)
  • install DirectX 9 (and verif his install, with dxdiag.exe)
  • uninstall ATI control panel, uninstall ATI drivers (don't restart for both)
  • go to the registry here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Control \Video
    and delete all key
  • go to the registry here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Services
and delete ATI Hotkey Poller, ATI Smart and ati2mtag key
  • if you have KT400 chipset unsintall the device "VIA CPU to AGP" in the System Devices in Device Manager
  • go to the registry here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Control \AGP
and delete all value but not the default value (warning don't delete the key)
  • go to the registry here:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Services
and delete viaagp, viaagp1 key (all viaagp key)
  • restart your computer in safe mode with or not the network
  • delete the folder ATI Technologies in the Program Files folder
  • delete ati2mtag.sys in Windows \System32 \Drivers
  • delete ati2dvag.dll, ati2mtag.sys, ati3d1ag.dll and ati3d2ag.dll in Windows\System32\dllcache
  • delete ati*.* in Windows \System32 (I have 17 files here personnaly)
  • search in Windows \Inf all file contening the text "Radeon" and delete this files
  • For KT400, delete in Windows \System32 \drivers all file with that viaagp (normaly 1 or 2 files) and the same thing in the dllcache (hidden directory)
  • Now install the VIA Hyperion Drivers in safe mode always and restart
  • if the computer ask for file for your graphic card ATI Radeon *, you have not deleted all ".inf" file correctly, so don't worry just cancel if it ask you
  • Now install the Catalyst 3.0 and restart

I did a fresh install of DX9 And the ATI Cat 3 onto my system with a Radeon 7500 and then tried to play Tony Hawk 2. It was kind of cool but after awile the transparent objects became anoying. BTW when I used Cat 2.5 with DX9 this problem is fixed.
Also in Half-Life, I play the game, then pause, then when I go to resume it hangs at the splash screen. Cat2.5 w/DX9 doesnot fix this problem however.

Big Grin

Hey,

You can get my 9700 if you are serious. Not free of course. Just what it would cost me to get another GeForce4 4600 TI.

Big Scale Racing will flash corrupt -liney looking- graphics on occasion. That's the only probs I found so far.

I haven't been as thorough in my testing as I usually am. Not having a 9700 kind of steals some of the fun out of the update.

BUMMER, those demos absolutely do not work with an 8500, I get some error about not being able to find a suitable graphics adapter. I figured that they would at least WORK, even if I didn't see some of the enhanced effects. I mean, they said they were "optimised" for the 9700, not "only for" the 9700....

I guess you have to have a 9700 to be impressed with these new drivers and DX9. -sigh- Maybe when someone finally develops that "infinite cash" wallet......

Anyone want to donate a 9700 to me?

I'll install them on the WinXP rigs tomorrow, of course they only have 8500dv's in them, so I don't expect to be impressed with that either.

These are my only problems with the Catalyst 3's on my 8500:

Random lock-ups in the following games:

- BloodRayne demo
- Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
(Both of thse lockups can be fixed by reducing the detail level in the game)
- FIFA 2003 (only when it's raining, and only during replays/cut scenes)

Sad

Almost forgot to mention that SOF II has shuttering problems and the start of game video shows only as a black screen.

As I indicated before I have reinstalled the 2.5's until the bugs get worked unless some is looking for 9700 Pro for Xmas gift?

PS - I see over at www.Rage3D.com that ATI has formally stated they are working a patch for the 3.0 package.

Lets see what happens. Perhpa my trip to Best Buy will no be necessary.

I hear all you need to do is manually install the driver. Extract it first and double click on setup.exe for driver and control panel. Havent done it yet my self. Smart gart says U can use 8x and have fast writes. I don't need to be told this everytime I boot though.

Previous DX9RC0 drivers have fixed Stamina Bar position in Diablo II (but not the Expirience bar too) - but current ones have broken it again...

hi there. not Problem so far. just two for now:
first, is DX9 related: GTA3 does not start.. just gives error.
second, CS gives "selected resolution is not supported" with OGL NO actual resolution will work, with DX works most of the time...
but who#s gonna play CS in DX??... *narf*
the DX part of the Driver seems to make no problems.
OGl i dont know, cuz CS doesnt run.
other OGLs games are currently not on my hdd...

Thumbs Up! XP Pro update

Hey devil021175. Here's the file name: Q327979_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe

This update addresses the "Game Stops Responding or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played" issue in Windows XP, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article 327979. Date: 11/20/2002

www.microsoft.com - downloads - xp

I sorted by date in the search to find it easier. It fixed my problems with Age of Mythology and Medieval Total War--the only games that I have been playing for a while. I hope this helps you as it did for me.

just to keep you guys up to date. Terry and the guys in ATI are working hard on the set to improve issues. they want everyone happy. I dont want to speak on the behalf of ati but expect a revision/new set in the near future. in the meantime people who are experiencing major problems with the cat3 set, revert to 2.5 or the last working set on your specific rig.

there is also an interview with terry front page of Driverheaven for those interested.

Thanks for the update. I have reverted back to the 2.5 version and all is well. Not as smooth as when I had DX 8.1 installed but it's ok I guess.

Lets hope we get a 3.0 fix soon. The kid got her Dad a couple games for Xmas and I really want to see them at their best.

Installed dx9 then clean installed cat 3.0. Could no longer play Spearhead! Tried Mafia and there is corruption all over the place! These are the first drivers I have experienced issues with. Reverted back to Omega's latest and all is well again.

Which brings me to another point: When is ATI going to put Cyborg and Omega on their driver team? Instead of having to seek their help to "fix" drivers they could be issuing drivers that work from the get go.

WinXP Pro
Radeon 8500 64mb
256mb ram

Merry Christmas All.......I wish santa had a cyborg/omega cat 3.0 in that bag......

As a followup to my other post, this one is reguarding the Splinter
Cell demo..

Sometimes shadow's don't.. "clear" themselves.. for example, if
a person walks behind a corner (out of view) and stops to check
around, the shadow then doesn't move along with the person
but stays wherever it was cast.. when walking over it, though,
the shadow disappears..

Fucking christ people!!! just go back to the 2.5s. Ati doens't recommend upgrading drivers if your system works fine. The only advantage of these drivers is to show off the demos, that's it, that's all. Threatening to go back to Nvidia is not going to help. These are the first directx 9 drivers. Fucking relax, sheesh

My problem is simply this, No One Lives Forever 2 displays no graphics, only a black screen. All of the menues show correctly and the loading screen shows fine. However, after the level is loading the screen goes black after 1-2 seconds. Sound continues to play for perhaps a miniute until it stops aswell.

The 2nd time this happened Windows XP gave me a message saying that my video device had failed or something to that effect. I have recieved this error one other time while playing Dark Age of Camelot (w/ Shrouded Isles).

This error is easily recreated with nolf2 it happens everytime I try to play. This error has only happened once while playing dark age of camelot, most of the time the game runs great.

My sys:
AMD 1800 XP
ASUS A7V8X
Retail Radeon 8500
512 MB Crucial pc 2100 ram
SB Audigy
Windows XP W/service pack 1
Direct X 9.0
Catalyst 3.0

PS I have had absolutly no other problems since upgrading to cats3.0 and dx9. Great Work ATI! Keep it up.
