Hi
I need some help from the experts here at the Forum with this small problem I have. It all started after I installed the latest Omega Drivers, the movies started to lag everytime there was a conversation and the subtitles were to pop up on the screen. It's just a very small lag, but it's enough to get you irretated by it and I really would like to get things back to the way the were before I installed the latest version of Omega Drivers, in other words, no lag at all ![]() After I noticed the problem I removed the drivers using the uninstall and Driver Cleaner PE and then installed the old ones I used before. But the problem still remains... I tried again a few times to uninstall and reinstall the drivers but it doesn't seem to help. All I can think of is that Driver Cleaner and the Uninstall doesn't really work as there seems to be drivers still laying around on the harddrive. Is there any other program like Driver Cleaner out there which can remove ATI drivers and/or some other way to remove the drivers without formating the harddrive? I'm open for all kinds of suggestions to get my computer completely clean of ATI drivers as it seems they are still lurking around. I'm using Powercolor Radeon 9800 Pro 128 if that can be of some help to you guys ![]() This problem isn't very common as I've searched all over the web for someone who had a similar problem, but haven't had any luck ![]() So that's why I'm asking here, hoping someone with a lot of knowledge about these things can give me a hand with this, because I'm starting to get a little tired of this ![]() Anyway, many thanks in advance to the people who can help ![]() //TrueCross |

Do they lag with all players? I've had the same problem with zoomplayer. I noticed that if I turned off AA and AF the lag was gone. I also noticed that if I tuned the video renderer (Directshow- DX 9) not to use VMR9 (either windowless or windowed mode) the lag was gone even if AA and AF was set to higher than default. The problem is however not always consistent and I've done a lot of trial and error. I do not have any problems with the latest drivers. Hope this helps

Hi Puzzled
First of, many thanks for taking your time to reply ![]() I tried all the things you mentioned in your post but none of them worked for me sadly. I'm using Media Player Classic which is IMO the best videoplayer out there and I have no intention to switch ![]() I really don't have any problem watching the movie without this lag, but then I'd have to remove the subtitles which are very much needed when watching. So I really can't give them up either ![]() Everything worked fine with rad_w2kxp_omega_2612 and just after I installed the latest rad_w2kxp_omega_2625a the problem was there. So there has to be some kind of connection with the drivers in some way. That's why I'm looking for annother method to completely remove the drivers from the harddrive, so I can have a clean and fresh install of the drivers without formating the harddrive ![]() Well if someone knows anything that might be of some help, please reply to this thread as it would be most appreciated. //TrueCross |

well you can disable vmr9 in mpc (if you didnt know), when you used drivercleaner did you also remove the IGP entries? and did you use drivercleaner in safemode or regular?

Hi ChoGGi
Thanks for you reply ![]() Yes I've been trying some different things, one was to disable VMR9 and change it to VMR7 as one of these seems to be necessary to render the subtitles. But even when I changed it to VMR7 it didn't solve my problem and if I disable VMR7 I'm not sure if I can watch the movie with subtitles. Yes I did like the instructions told me, to run Driver Cleaner in Safe Mode and I did remove the IGP entries and I also used Cab Cleaner. After I installed the Drivers for a 3rd time I used Omegas own uninstall instructions and Driver Cleaner, but still it didn't help. But one thing I'd like to know is: When installing drivers for the graphicscard can they have effect on some other things installed on your computer, such as codecs and filters? I was thinking that maybe some codec/filter file might have gotten replaced or something when I installed the Omega Drivers, is this possible? That some software might have been using the same file from the Omega Drivers? Many thanks for all the help ![]() //TrueCross |

you actually shouldnt remove the IGP entries (unless you have an ati chipset), try reinstalling your chipset drivers then radeon drivers. what do you use to play subtitles with? you could try removing it and reinstalling it. |

Hi ChoGGi
Thanks for your reply, it sure was a fast one ![]() Many thanks for you suggestion, that's one of the things I haven't thought about yet and who knows, it might be the answer I've been looking for ![]() About the subtitles, I'm using something that came with Matroska Pack and it's called DirectVobSub, which launches the subtitles auto when starting a movie file with subtitles embedded into the file. The thing is, if I turn off DirectVobSub I wont have any problems with the lag in the movies, but that also means I will lose the subtitles which I need to watch the movie. I was thinking that maybe there's some other program to auto load subtitles out there and maybe I could use that one instead, but I still feel like this shouldn't have to be, as I know it can work. It's the principles ![]() I've also tried reinstalling the Matroska Pack which has DirectVobSub but that didn't help either, so it really is a weird problem I'll tell you that ![]() But I'm going to try reinstalling the Chipset Drivers and then install the Omega Drivers after as you suggested and I really hope this will work as the latest Omega Drivers has made my games run really sweet ![]() //TrueCross |

if you only have lag while playing subtitles then it's probably because you have aa forced on.

Did you turn on mediaplayer acceleration in one of the omega screens? It's off by default.

Hi ChoGGi and Callous
Just like ChoGGi said, it's for wmv I believe. But I just discovered something and I feel a little stupid ![]() I was so sure about DirectVobSub being the cause for the lag as it's a subtitle rendering filter and I never really took a deeper look into this. Anyway I decided now that I would go to the bottom and make my facts clear and I noticed that DirectVobSub isn't the cause of the lag, in a matter of fact DirectVobSub works perfectly with rendering of the subtitles. The real problem lies within MPC itself with the VMR7 and VMR9, just like Puzzled mentioned earlier ![]() So it seems it's all been MPC's own subtitle rendering with VMR7 and VMR9 that has been the problem. I'm very posetive about this as I tried using a different renderar (Old Renderer to be precise) and use only DirectVobSub for the subtitles and the problem was gone ![]() So in a small way you can say that the problem is now solved, but I'm still interested in knowing more about what VMR7 and VMR9 are, as I know that there shouldn't have to be any problem using them as rendering and use MPC's own subtitle support. So like my final request, I would like to ask if someone here can fill me in on just what VMR7 and VMR9 do and if they have some connection to the Omega Drivers as they're used for graphics rendering right? And if there's some way to reinstall them? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't VMR9 have a connection with DirectX 9? I also would like to apologize as this Thread has fallen a little off topic and started to fall over to Video Software and Filters, I'm very sorry about that. But this Thread will soon be over and then it can rest in peace ![]() Many thanks for all the help guys ![]() //TrueCross Last edited by TrueCross; Jun 22, 2005 at 05:12 PM. |

actually Puzzled mentioned vmr i just repeated it.
"Media Player Classic can also render subtitles directly by itlself, without using VobSub, by choosing VMR7 or VMR9 in View | Options | Playback | Output | Video. You need Windows XP to use VMR7. You need DirectX 9 to use VMR9." thats from here http://ld-anime.faireal.net/guide/ogm-en.php |

Hi ChoGGi
Yeah I noticed that now that you mentioned it and I've edited to post. I guess I'm starting to get a little tired hehe ![]() Anyway, just like the info you posted, that's what I did. I changed the rendering mode from VMR9 to Old Render and then just let DirectVobSub render the subtitles all be itself and there's no more choppy lag everytime a subtitle pops up ![]() But then it's clear that VMR9 is linked to DirectX 9. So is there anyway to reinstall DirectX 9? I took a look around and there was no uninstall to be found and when I tried running DirectX Setup file it only told my that everything was installed already and then shutdown the installation. But I also heard that, removing and reinstalling DirectX might damage your computer and Windows might stop loading if you're unlucky. So I'm not so sure if I want to try that first ![]() But I'm more interested in what VMR9 really is and if there's some way to reinstall it/that? Now whatever VMR9 is I'm not so sure, but it's bound to be made of files on the harddrive and there has to be a way to reinstall them. I think that reinstalling VMR9 might solve this problem, as it isn't as stable as it was after the installation of the Omega Drivers and maybe some files that were linked to DirectX 9 and VMR9 got replaced or something. Well if someone here knows just what VMR9 is and maybe even a way to reinstall it, I'd be most thankful if you could share your knowledge with me ![]() Once again, thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it ![]() //TrueCross |

i believe theres tools to uninstall directx or you could try a reinstall of it.
the program dxdiag (start>run>type in dxdiag) will show you if any of the directx files are missing. this should give you the basics of vmr9 http://www.htpcguide.com/glossary/vmr9/ |

Hi ChoGGi
Many thanks for the link about VMR9, that sure helped me get some ideas what VMR9 is and how it works ![]() I tried the dxdiag and according to the program everything was fine and no files were missing. I also took a look around and found some tools that will uninstall DirectX 9 and reinstall DirectX 8.1, I believe it was, that comes with Windows XP. But I don't think I'll try that, as there's a possiblity that Windows might not like it and start to act weird and all, plus that games that are already installed and needs DirectX 9 or later might stop functioning as well. Well I have found a way to play the movies with subtitles so I'm really happy about that and I don't think I should dig any further down, as it might result in some heavier problems and maybe even the need to format my harddrive. Well then, many thanks for all the help, if it wasn't for you guys I probably wouldn't have found this alternative solution to my problem. Cheers! ![]() //TrueCross |
