Radeon Win 2k/xp Omega Drivers 2.2.18

OMEGADRIVE WRITES:

This are my "optimized" drivers for the ATI Radeon family of video cards, this version (Omega 2.2.18) is for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Special note:
THESE DRIVERS ARE MADE FOR GAMES, NOT BENCHMARKS!!! THEY FIX GRAPHICAL ERRORS, STABILITY PROBLEMS AND SOME SPEED ISSUES ONLY IN GAMES. THEY ADD VISUAL QUALITY, STABILITY AND MORE OPTIONS. IF YOU WANT DRIVERS FOR BENCHMARKS DOWNLOAD ATI'S ORIGINAL DRIVERS INSTEAD FOR 3DMARK2K1 AND OTHER BENCHMARKS.

New (Omega 2.2.18)
* After a long time out of the 2k/XP drivers, I'M BACK!!!
* Based on the leaked 6218 drivers from Saphiretech (Catalyst 2.5).
* Mixed BOTH Windows + the control panel + all language files in one small package.
* Added a new resolution, 1200x900, and like the other "special" resolutions, is only avaiable in one refresh rate setting.
* Now you can choose between 75Hz, 85Hz and 100Hz in the "special" resolutions during setup.
* Added more tweaks to the drivers to 5B4 speed them up.
* Added a new PowerPlay option.
* Vsinc slider is now present in the ATI control panel if you want to force V-Sinc in D3D and OpenGL.
* Added the DX Override Refresh option in the ATI Displays Control Panel.
* Fixed Laptop support, now the drivers should install in ALL ATI Mobile cards.
* Shaved some MBs off the drivers by removing the WDM files plus the
Control Panel setup files. (All languages still available)
* Very Important!!!
I have tested the drivers ONLY in Windows XP, not 2000 or any mobility cards, so if you use them on Windows 2k PC or a Mobility card, let me know the results. I made sure all settings for 2k and mobile cards where correct, but I'm human and can make mistakes. Again, let me know how it all goes in Win2k and/or Mobile cards by E-Mail or by posting the problem in Driverheaven forum. Thanks.

Download them from our affliates TECHCONNECT HERE

so many new drivers to choose from!! here's a (probably stupid) question: is this new driver better than the new catalyst? game-wise, that is. btw, isn't 3dmark 2001 a gaming bench mark? so why would this driver not do well in 3dmark2001 ?

digitalwanderer is an unknown quantity at this point

Question.

Is this the first time that Omegadrive and ATI have released their take on the same drivers on the same day? (BTW- I like BOTH sets and they seem to work GREAT! Nice job Omegadrive!)

Catalyst drivers (and Omega's are modified catalyst) are only for ATI Radeon cards: M1 is a Ati Rage mobility

DXDiag reports no acceleration, 2D is slow, AGP Texturing is N/A etc. Smartgart reports AGP as OFF, FastWrites as Off.
Maybe a complete XP reinstallation will solve it.

Heh, this is Omegadrive's set, not Cyborg
FastWrites screwed up whole thing for me too.
Also, it seems that Omega (accidentally) removed SMARTGART advanced (Start/Run type smartgart).

Tomorrow I am going to test reinstalling windows and installing ATI official Catalyst 2.5 and going to compare to my expirience of this (in UT mainly - D3D so-so, OpenGL so-so, NitroGL sucks).
Also, Darkstone can be interesing to test. Need to see, will report here.

Guys fastwrites typically aren't supported with mobile chipsets. In addition, while fastwrites sounds like a good idea in theory, it isn't in implementation and contributes virtually nothing to performance. In about 90% of the cases, fastwrites causes system instability and crashes.

Fast writes and Smartgart have never seemed to work right on my rig, whether on an official driver, beta or tweaked set. I don't think what you're experiencing has much to do with Omega's tweakage, though if it were fixed I'd be pretty pleased. Anyway, great work. These look better and run faster in DirectX, and are at least as good as the official 2.5 for me in OpenGL.

Cool! Take it easy guys...

As I said in the readme, the drivers where tested in WinXP only, but I added the mobility support from scratch as I didn't had new mobility drivers from any company to take the settings from, so I mostly used the settings from old drivers and added what I thought it would work.
In the 2k side, I used the exact same settings from XP, but added the other 2k stuff that make them different from the XP ones, so it should work too.

Some advice: NEVER USE FASTWRITES, thank you!

Also, poeple, try removing previous drivers, then delete the old INF files before restarting the PC, and then install my drivers. I found that if I installed the drivers over the previous ones (at least in XP) many settings where not correct, I mean, the way I tweaked them, and after doing the above, they worked. I noticed that this happened because Windows XP was using the OLD inf file instead of the new one, EVEN using the setup from ATI, which is weird, but it happened. Try what I said and give them a second run.

but dude, it DOESN't work, so how can we relax? we can't use your sweet new driver!

If it helps, here's a link to the "latest" oficial driver for my mobility 7500 (6096):
https://support.dell.com/register.aspx just choose 'Inspiron 8100', then click 'downloads', then pick 'winXP' and 'video drivers' then GO

i don't use fastwrites and i did a thorough uninstall (i'm a master by now)

err.. what .inf file where? if it starts with ati* then i delete it as part of the uninstall instructions.

thanks!

I'm having loads of problems since a few weeks, mostly with NFSHP2 on my Radeon 8500 (The problems didn't start with these drivers, but they are still present)

After a few minutes of racing NFSHP2 starts showing memory overclocking artifacts (red and blue dots and streaks on the textures - but the card isn't overclocked at all!). Also after some more time, I see some semi-transparent triangle shapes appearing - as if the polygon texturing wasn't fully done... I can alt-tab out of the game and back, and everything looks great... until it hardlocks the whole computer! (It happens wether I alt-tab or not, it doesn't matter)

I don't think this is a heat problem, the case temperature is 30C, the thing ran fine with 36C+ temperatures in summer.
NFSHP2 is the only game that doesn't work well anymore, Quake3/UrbanTerror runs just fine in this setup (haven't had the time to try them with the new drivers here)

*** edit: UrbanTerror works fine ***

Any ideas what might be wrong? How to alleviate this? The most NFSHP2 I played in a single session in three weeks was two races and it was less than an hour ago - all the other times: hardlock.

Thanks,

Pete

I've got a Mobility 7500. OGL appears to work at least in Jedi Outcast, though performance appears considerably degraded in certain situations. However upgraded IQ seems to explain this.

Smartgart appears to report everything correctly and 2d acceleration is finally working again (haven't gotten it to work since Plutonium 8.1).

Haven't tried d3d yet, but I'll report back once I have.

One last thing. the announcement mentioned a Powerplay option? where can I find it?

Overall excellent work. Thank you!

cheers,
Andrew

Alucard, I was checking the INF again and I found an error for the mobility cards, I forgot to enable the powerplay control panel, but you can enable it by going into the registry and look for this key "ExtEvent_EnablePowerPlay"
It will be at "0", change it to "1" (you may need to do it several times, it installs various copies in the registry), then restart.
I have never seen this control panel working, but some users have reported that it exist. Try the above to see if it shows and let me know

petecool, EA games have ALWAYS had problems with NON-NVIDIA cards, even the demo of NFSHP2 locks on me every now and then, there is no solution until EA issues a patch OR ATI actually finds is a bug in the drivers and fix it...

luleandy, I have to register to be able to download from Dell, and I don't have any Dell products...
Do you know of another place where I can get them?
The INF files (at least in XP) are called OEM##.INF, you must check all the OEM files to see which ones belong to ATI and delete them.

Omega, that's weird, I never had any problems with EA games, ever before... I played hours and hours of NFS5 with both my Intel 810 (crap!) and my Radeon 8500, and I never had a single crash that I can remember. I also played some NHL2002 without problems... but maybe you didn't play the same games as me.

But even then, was the crashing ever as chronic as making it impossible to play over 10 minutes without stopping and restarting the game? This must be a driver issue since putting in your drivers raised the time I could play to about 8~10 minutes instead of 1~2 max...

Thanks anyway, I'm sure I'll find a way... when I finish those damn homeworks

Yup, these rock!

Radeon 7500 Mobility

Quake 3 is great. 100fps 10*7 maxed (on battery no less)

Counterstrike is great.

UT2k3 is awesome.

3DMark is great.

Not sure why others are having problems, but these are awesome on my laptop.

I didn't find a powerplay tab though. Is there a registry setting that I need to change?

I folowed the instructions and changed the dozen or so refernces of this key in the registry. No luck. I would like to see the panel, but it is not crucial.
