XP effects seem to be working better. Everything is sped up. Thanks, I am really happy now.

Here is a bug I've been having problems with; it may be something I'm doing wrong, but if I don't bring it to light, how will I know?

Windows XP w/ SP1
Hercules Radeon 8500 128mb

After I follow the uninstallation guide(s) for the drivers to the best of compatilibity with my system, and after I install the new 2.2.18 drivers, things work fine. However, after I turn off fast writes through Smart Gart in the control panel, following the reboot for changes to take effect, I notice that menus tile downward rather than appearing all at once. Then, when I check under Smart Gart, it says that AGP mode is off. So, I turn fast writes back on and set it to 4X, yet after a reboot it's the same thing.

If I reinstall the drivers, straight from the program menu option, things work fine again. Yet, if I turn off fast writes again through Smart Gart, I'm left doing the same old dance. Is there some way to fix this?

Alucard, I was checking the INF again and I found an error for the mobility cards, I forgot to enable the powerplay control panel, but you can enable it by going into the registry and look for this key "ExtEvent_EnablePowerPlay"
I tried that, changed the value a dozen or so times; no such luck getting the Powerplay control panel. I'm going to try editing the inf and reinstalling the drivers to see if that changes anything.

One other thing of note: does anyone here use WindowFX? Only reason I ask is to see if anyone else's Per-pixel alpha and Constant alpha blending are accelerated. Mine are not anymore. Additionally this is the very first set since the Catlysts came out that have had these features broken.

Can anyone with official Cat2.5s or the Saphire Catlysts check if this is common to all Cat2.5s, or just this set?

Yup, don't enable fastwrites.

Omega, why Voice Menu in UT (acessed by V by default) looks very bad on OpenGL on these drivers (Sapphire original ones don't have this issue)?

Wink

Just wondering, as for newer files wise.....would Omegas set and the new Cat 2.5 be the same files used, just one tweaked by Omega, or are the Omega drivers a tad older or newer ( since being the Saphire 6128 set ).

Thanks, cause Id like to use the latest driver files out, but love Omegas tweaked sets!!

Hey, what about Macrovision and Gamma in games?

Loved the previous version of the omegas, however changed to the Plutonium XP 8.1's because of those 2 things. I hate having to disable TV-Out (which doesn't have a TV plugged, BTW) to watch a DVD, and gamma in the plutoniums is just perfect. Miss the force v-sync option, though.

Will give these a try when I arrive home. Thx, omega!

Well, on a M9 i have the PowerPlay option, BUT it won´t work. I set it to Powersaving, but it stays on OptimalPerformance. Even when i unplug it. Any Idea.

Anyone play with these on an Ati Radeon 7500 AIW?

(Seems like NO ONE has this card..why did I buy it? Why?!)

I've been trying to find something..ANYTHING to get my games to run faster/less choppy on this card.

Maybe it's not the card, maybe my rig is starting to show it's age...

Amd T-Bird 900, 512mb 'o Ram, Radeon 7500 AIW, Ibm Deskstar 80 gig 7500 RPM Drive + Some generic 20gig drive..

Do you know of another place where I can get them?
I don't think you have to register, just click Inspiron8100 from 'select product' and you're brought to a new page, then click the downloads option. Unfortunately I can't verify this right now as the support site's been down all day..

The INF files (at least in XP) are called OEM##.INF, you must check all the OEM files to see which ones belong to ATI and delete them.
Nope, can't find this file, never could. So what could the problem be?
I have some more noob questions:
How do you know if a game uses OpenGL?
How do I play with BIOS options like you list on your homepage?

That's just the problem, RIV@, I'm trying to disable fast writes, but I can't unless I want to end up with a disabled AGP mode with a need to reinstall the drivers. Any kind of activity within Smart Gart disables AGP mode, and I can't get around it...so I have to leave fast writes enabled unless I want to reinstall the drivers. Once AGP mode moves over to disabled, games can't be played, and everything (menus) tiles downward rather than simply appearing.

luleandy, for what it's worth, I can never find the OEM*.inf files either, even after turning off "hide extensions for known file types" and enabling "show hidden files and folders."

Hmmm....
I have FastWrites Off by default.
If I leave it off, everything is OK.
If I turn it on, everything screws up.
If I reinstall the driver, everything gets back to OK, FW are off.

Hope that Omegadrive can fix this. Maybe Cyborg can fix this with the release of his set?

Unfortunately FW's are on by default for me. I haven't had any crashes yet (*knock on wood*), but I generally like to have them turned off just as safe measure.

alright...hey omega..i've been reading the posts....i have a mobility 7500 m7 32mb ... i have an hp and started out with those sh*tty drivers from their website...you can get it for ideas if you want..just go to hp.com click on drivers, then driver downloads...then put in pavilion zt1000 then click on the zt1000-d and download that one i think it's ATI6094..sorry can't give you the direct link...my internet is terrible and i can't get to the site...as for the 2.2.18's .. i don't see much of a performance gain over saphhire's 2.5's (that's just from what i can see)... i do like them better because they have the smartgart and rotation tabs which the sapphire's don't have...i installed your drivers twice by the way...once normally..then i edited the inf file and under softwaredevicesettings ADDED in...not replaced, but added in the settings that i put at my first post on this thread..i haven't edited through it to get rid of any dupicates or whatever, but it seemed that the drivers are slightly faster with the added settings..let me know if you can figure out what in there might help..

well i hope some of this info can help you out on your drivers...really appreciate what you do for us...us mobility users are always left out in the cold with all these companies ... thanks

Ok.... REALLY dumb question
When i had my old Asus Geforce 256 the one with the wireframe drivers I turned off Fast Writes cos it would screw up my computer...
But i've had my comp for a couple months.. and i'm assuming fastwrites have always been on...

and the question... what is fast writes?
why is turning it off good?

When you install the drivers you have the choice between "performance" or "quality". If you choose the "quality" setting you get the really increased LOD, if you choose "performance" they have a similar LOD to the regular nVidia set.

Hey digitalwanderer, are you sure you are not into something illegal???
This is the R A D E O N thread, not the nvidia one.
As for the LOD, I CAN'T play with the LOD of the Radeon cards, ATI doesn't have a setting for negative values, which increases the LOD

schwarz2 and luleandy, you can access Dell because you are using one, the come from the factory with an Internet cookie that identifies it to the server, but if I try to access the download area with non-dell computer it won't let me, unless I enter a service code, believe me, I have tried a LOT of times...

humanity, have you disabled FW in the PC's BIOS? There is the first place it should be disabled, then in Windows, in the display-performance TAB, and LAST in the ATI Smartgart control panel.

humanity and luleandy, the OEM*.INF files can be found in the INF folder inside the Windows folder, for example, my OEM file for the Radeon card is called "OEM12.INF", windows writes an OEM file for every driver you install from a third party manufacturer.

Sebastiano, no idea... but in the normal drivers, Does it work?

orrimarrko, the saphire drivers are identical to the ones released by ATI, is just that they were leaked by Saphire before ATI made the anouncement.

you can try IBM's website for mobility drivers. here is the link for the ones I use on my A31.

Device driver matrix

Hopefully this link works for you. Just head down to the Video section for Radeon Drivers.

Cheers,

sorry about that, the file is only 7.5 megs, if you have an email that can handle that, send me a PM and i'll mail it to you. I just cut and pasted the M7 code from the inf file from this mobility driver into the catalyst inf file to get it to work for my card, which it did, but i get the same openGL crash with NWN.
Quote:
the OEM*.INF files can be found in the INF folder inside the Windows folder,
so searching your hd won't find these, good to know! I found the ati oem file but it was deleted automatically when I uninstalled the new catalyst driver. I did the full uninstall and reinstalled your driver (even re-installed NWN!) but i had the same crash just as it's about to enter a new or saved game, just as before and with catalyst 2.5. Morrowind on the other hand runs beautifully.
You have to fix this OpenGL bug for us mobility saps, PLEASE
I love your driver for direct3d speed, it's much faster than the new catalyst. The dxdiag cube was almost blurring!!

Someone's blood is gonna boil

But I benched these anyways. They perform very well in 3Dmark despite the disclaimer. If I change the OGL or DX tabs to 'default' do I lose the Omega settings? Or are the Omega settings the actual values of the sliders?

No man...reread my post...i have a HP...they don't require cookies for their website...i'm just suggesting to download the driver they have there just as a reference for future drivers since you guys are saying that you're just basically implementing mobility driver support from scratch...

Powerplay

I understand that laptop makers can specify the actual hard values of each of the Powerplay global settings. Is there any way to access these settings? Not just power saving or performance, but the actual numeric.

OCing M7

I managed over 5000 3dmarks on a P4M 1.6 with M7 by oc'ing the video. This chip is very oc'able. The extra 300 pts doesn't add much. I have to say though, that when I was selecting my laptop the m9 was not really that exciting. Only the Alienware/Sager notebooks and DELLs use the m9 and I am not a big fan of either. The 2800T looked awesome, but I could only find the 2811.

Oh well.

Yeah this is off topic, sorry.

Omega, I have to ask; how did you manage to make the Windows GUI perform so much better?

Thanks for the tips, Omega. I was able to find the ATi .inf files with that extra information.

I'll have to play around in trying to get Fast Writes disabled, though. For some reason my motherboard (Asus P4T533-C) doesn't carry that option, which surprises me.

If it works, why to disable it?
But, strange thing is that when in original Sapphire 2.5 set when you turned on/off (changed) FastWrites, nothing bad happened, they just got reset, but in omega's set it does. Why?

Like I mentioned, since there's no performance gain from having FW's enabled, I just like to be on the safe, stable side of things.

I was thinking the same thing, though...no problems yet.

In the original set it was an 8500 mobilety, so changed the Drivers very Fast. I haven´t tested it. Sorry, but with the 7.79b 2 the PowerPlay works, but when i started a Game or 3DMark2k1 it stops with a blue screen when it tries to go to full Speed. It was very slow at the beginning, because of the 66/66 MHz setting, which i tested with PowerStrip. Shouldent PowerPlay changes the Speed on demand. Am i wrong?

Bleh. Ok, while overall I liked these drivers (game stability/speed = good), the 2D acceleration for XP was... yet again... disabled. This seems to be a TOTALLY hit-or-miss thing, as subsequent installations of identical drivers can enable it or disable it, seemingly at the whim of some capricious computer sprite. WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THESE SETTINGS! ARGH! ATI = EVIL!
