Troubleshooting Tips

I thought I'd start a thread where users could post some tips for people new to x64 and ATi drivers.

Here's a Q&A that I'll post.

Q: After I install my drivers I can no longer boot into windows. I also can't log into safe mode. What can I do?

A: Aquire the latest BIOS from your motherboard manufacturer. After installing them clear your CMOS and try windows again. If it still doesn't load look for some Beta BIOS that you could try. If that still doesn't work, another tip is to turn off Command Per Clock in your BIOS; it should be under your RAM options. If it's already off then try turning it on.

installing catalyst on windows x64 gives you this error mesage
"fail to set the install registry key"
download supershell
http://p-nand-q.com/download/supershell.html
start it and type in regedit
goto HKLM\SOFTWARE and delete the whole "ATI Technologies" key
reboot and reinstall the drivers.

windows x64 and unknown devices with catalyst 5.5 and up.
the pci ids changed for vivo/aiw.
add these lines to the [ATI.Mfg.NTamd64] section in C:\windows\inf\atixpwdm.inf

%MVDCodec.DeviceDesc%=MVDCodec.Device,DISPLAY\NTat ivmd40
%ativpdxx.DeviceDesc%=ativpdxx.Device,DISPLAY\NTat ivpd40
%ativpdxx.DeviceDesc%=ativraxx.Device,DISPLAY\NTat ivra40
%ativpdxx.DeviceDesc%=ativrvxx.Device,DISPLAY\NTat ivrv40
%ATITUNEP.DeviceDesc%=ATITUNEP.Device,DISPLAY\NTat ivtu40
%ATIXSAudio.DeviceDesc%=ATIXSAudio.Device,DISPLAY\ NTativxs40

if you have sound for 32bit games but not for 64bit.
reinstall your sound drivers and when it asks for files point it to your x64 cd instead of your system32 folder.
i used point it to system32 as the files are usually there, but the setup file for my x64 (audigy2) drivers is 32bit so the x6432 file redirection kicks in and points it to the SysWOW64 folder instead of the system32 folder.
