Jk2:JA and x850xt, unplayable fps

Since I installed JK2: Jedi Academy on my desktop I've been getting some big performance problems. I think I've narrowed it down to a driver issue, but I've tried a bunch of different driver sets and none help. Before I get into the problem I'll list the sets I've tried:

5.4 x64 drivers
5.4 omega's (I dual boot)
5.5 Cats
5.4 Cats

Even though it shouldn't matter i'll post the different settings i play at:

16xaf, 6xaa, 1280x1024 w/ full in game details gives me 20 fps w/ drops down to 8 or 9.
noaf, noaa, 1024x768 gives me 40 fps w/ drops down to the mid 30's.
noaf, noaa 800x600 gives me 50 fps w/ drops down to the mid 40's.

This performance is unacceptable.

I don't know what could be causing this other than drivers, but I've tried almost everything that works with a Pci-Express card. On a side note, my laptop plays this game at a comfortable 45 fps at 1024x768 with high ingame settings and no aa or af. That's about the same as the above, but it's with a 1.5ghz centrino and a 9700m.

Just to rule out a hardware issue, CS:S and 3dm2003 run great.

Even though I've always had a low self esteem in other areas, I've always considered myself to be smart. I mean, I got a 3.3gpa in high school even though I dropped out for a semester, I scored a 96 on the ASVABs, I currently have a college GPA of 3.93, and I've ended up being a teacher aide rather than a student in more than one class. That being said, the numbering system for the Jedi Knight series will baffle me until I die.

It's one of the weirdest series out there. It uses a similar theory to what Robert Rodriguez has thought about doing with the El Mariachi series, make two trilogies out of 5 movies, or in this case 4.

Depending on how you look at the Jedi Knight series Jedi Academy could be considered number 2, 3, or 4. I said JK2:JA because of two reasons, first, it's the second game to have the general foremost label of Jedi Knight. Secondly it's almost identical to JK2: Jedi Outcast, so it's hard for me to consider it a completely different game. I mean here's the list:

Dark Forces
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

So what the hell is Jedi Academy considered? They don't give it a proper label at all!

Anyways, it's getting too late now, I'll try running quake 3 tomorrow. I may also track down SoF2 and JK2: Jedi Outcast.

confusing series indeed.

try older older catalyst set like 4.4 or something. im surprised, for a q3 engine game i still cant max out the settings on it. volumetric shadows look odd at times, but they give it good depth

Maybe its just OGL in general, is there an option for OGL you're setting incorrectly> AFAIK most of those are OGL

I can't, I need something that supports the x850 series.

which is the newest and most played? i need to get some decent fps/thirdperson lightsabre action after watching all the movies up to five. six is on tv on sunday night. local cable doing a special running one episode a week to coincide with the launch. fxxxing ads draw it out 20% longer.

oh yeah when i say most played i'm talking in terms of mulitplayer.. don't really want to do some stupid mission and cut up AI...

Maybe you need a tweaker to turn off some OGL settings like forcing buffer depths
