I noticed that open GL benchmarks such as GLExcess and Quake3 bench seem to be way higher on my rig than with all previous drivers-GLExcess went from 11,000-14,000 range and I'm getting 318+ fps at 1280x1024 max settings in Q3 Bench-That's about the best I've seen on my machine

Yeah, this started happening after 5.1. It was a buffer problem, which was supposed to be fixed after 5.4, so if you try 5.5, it should be fine now.

Please see attached thread and ocicide's post. Same problem as I posted earlier with Trackmania Sunrise. CRASHES!!! ATI, since this is a brand new game, can you release a hot fix?

I am getting weird flashes in 3D games. . .like random portions of a scene that was already rendered pops in an out, like it is spitting out chunks of vid memory.

Tested the way I play:

X800XL , 3400+ AMD 64, 1GB RAM

Tested @ 1024X768X32bit No AA/AF
the ati slider on performance
In game settings lowerd

Souce bench results:

Cat 4.12
----------
Run 1: 136.04
Run 2: 135.41
Run 3: 136.44
Adverage: 135.96

Cat 5.5
----------
Run 1: 136.99
Run 2: 135.42
Run 3: 135.09
Adverage: 135.83

So there isn't much difference in CS: S performance with the excpetions that IQ has improved aross the board since 4.12

I'd say so the game is a "beta" and is never any final build. They keep makeing alterations, changes to the games, maps and content. Since released steam and CS: source and HL2 have been updated so many times i've lost count sometime last year.

I wont use these..
Well did you read that? If you not playing with your desktop 1024X768X32bit and in game 1600X1200 with everything cranked to thier maximum.. then its nothing to worry about.

Most people play at lower resoultions like 1024X768 anyways

I can safely say this is a 5.5 driver issue. Any help?
I just downloaded the demo i'll get back with you....

Can someone try custom resolutions? Particularly 1200 x 900? I want to check these out- but not if custom resolutions don't work. I haven't had the CCC installed on this win-install yet ever.

There is a problem I've just reported it to the proper people...
I would urge you to go a head and submit a bug report via the ATI website

I am truly amazed ATi fixing bugs game by game and whatever viewer - I always thought a professional driver design just works for all software. Ati drivers seem to look which application/game is loaded and accordingly reshuffle the driver? WTH…

ok, but has anybody tested this driver in H-L2 on 9800 pro? is it better than 5.1?
because 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 were horrible and fps sometimes go down from 180 to 35 or maybe is it a problem with the game, but then why on 5.1 it's running perfect?

Kinda depends if you have a Display which supports 85 hz and above in higher resolutions.. if you ask me. I'm running 1280x1024 / 100 hz, however if I had a display with a lower hz support on that res. I would play 1024x768

Pretty sure- I wanted to know for sure... I didn't want to go through all the hassle of installing and uninstalling without being sure. PS- I don't visit Rage.\\\\\\\\

I'll have to try I guess.

thew reason they older ones work isn't becuase they are better (more stable probly) but becuase hl2 got a bad update that messed up the games for newer stuff in the drivers.

the drivers for both nvidia and ati should work fine in it but a programer goofed the games ablty to use them.

Just like to sya thank you ATI for a solid set of drivers, your X800XL card runs very smooth. Much smoother then the bad 5.4s in comparison to these beauties.

Hmm...this issue worries me. I plan to buy this game as soon as I can actually find it in a store. Don't know why it's so hard to find.

I just got Trackmania Sunrise today (pretty fun game, BTW). I played it for around an hour-and-a-half. No problems, no lockups or crashes when going into menus or exiting the game. It ran fine the whole time.....well....except for when I tried to push the options too high, but then it just got choppy. It still never crashed or locked.

Using the 5.5's of course.

That's good to hear. Now you have a VIA chipset, versus mine is a NF2. Also our video cards are different. One of these could be why.

Neon, what are your system specs?

EDIT: Neon, Spyre advises the 5.5s are OK with him and T Sunrise. Can you also tell me if you are using ATI Tray Tools?

Face lift?

What did they change exactly? Could you possibly post a screen shot?

Oh, dear, what have I done? - no it's not a new skin or something. CCC started up in standard view instead of my usual advanced view. This caused me impression of a face lift. Sorry for the confusion.

One thing I note is that u (now) can switch off the ATi splash screen but it does not make CCC starting any faster.
