Some time ago, I asked the same question, the answer I had is that in D3D you canīt enable triple buffer by the drivers because the command of every game is different and you have to enable it in ingame settings, itīs one of the differences between D3D and Opengl, Opengl use the same command in games so you can enable it via drivers.

Now I know the game manufactures have to enable for D3D. If the above is true, and I'm only saying this because I don't have a clue on why the game manufactures have to enable, why can't ATI implement triple buffering for at least the popular games in their drivers? I mean, they can optimize for certain games (AI).
This feature would really set ATI apart from Nvidia. I have been hounding Valve for months to implement triple buffering option in the Source games. They never answer back.

Yes
Setup a shortcut to a game that you want to have tripple buffering and tick the present changer plugin and set the back buffer count to be 3
Tick the active box and then lauch the game using the util (not the usual game icon)

Dont think there is one other than the download page and the readme file. They expect you to know stuff about how DX works

2 is right. Not sure if it would even matter if you set it higher than 2 , might be that the driver just wouldn't care

Even with this D3D 'triple buffering', now and then my fps in cs source goes too low. (30-40fps) (I some areas wit alot of action and players)
It's alot better that it was without this 'triple buffering', but not quite good enough.
I play 1280x1024,x4 AA + x8 AF @85hz [v-sync on]
I guess if my monitor could just go up to 1280x1024@100hz it would be ok
Is this 'triple buffering' tweak for d3d proper 'tripple buffering' or just an attempt at it?

Yes this is real triple buffering. How high is your framerate without vsync at this place?
2 is the right value because you set the number of backbuffers. 2 backbuffers + 1 frontbuffer = 3 buffers at all = triple buffering.

well, I'm liking it. Half Life 2, NFSU2 and Direct Action all at 1280x1024 4xAA 16xAF silky smooth!

Demirug.
I'd say around 45-50 fps, not too sure to be honest. (v-sync off in those massive firefights)
But, when lookin at lots of water in aztec wit v-sync on my fps was falling to 42.5fps
Using this the tweak sorted that out and raised fps to 50-60fps
However, if i look at water and turn on flashlight fps still falls to 42.5fps
