2D and Source issues with the 5.4s (Update: Seems DC Did The Trick)

Two additional things I have noticed since installing the 5.4s. First, my Window, while maximized, flickers. Not a refresh rate issue, but the border starts to move in and out in a flickering action.

Second is the Source engine. Loading HL2 and CSS map takes forever now with a huge FPS hit. I'm talking unplayable at an actual 2 FPS. Sometimes the map won't even load. Actually re-downloaded Steam and all the games , which did not cure the problem. Went back to the 5.2s and inserted the 5.4 OGL driver because I am so happy with it. All good now.

The latter greatly saddens me because of the noticeable image improvement with DirectX and the 5.4s. I see instead of Multimedia drivers, WDM drivers are installed with DOS opening up now with the 5.4s. Could this change be causing any problems?

Yeah, I heard some of the X800 people getting screwed in the last driver release from ATI, I say stick with the omegas because he can sometimes iron those bugs out [sometimes, because of what happened with the 5.1's that was an atrocious release on ATI's part]

maybe you should try driver cleaner, css is working great for me on the 5.4s (about the same fps as 5.1-5.3).

Do you have an X800? Why would it work OK when reverting back to the 5.2s? ATI recommends uninstalling old drivers from Add/Remove in the control panel, which I did.

Good Call ChoGGi! Followed Driver Cleaner's directions, re-installed 5.4s, and now all games run silky smooth and never looked so beautiful. Window flickering also seems to have stopped.

ATI, you should recommend Driver Cleaner as part of the driver installation process. Before the initial installation of the 5.4s, I only had one other set installed after I reformatted, not too long ago. I'll bet it would cut down on some complaints. Also, I really like the way image quality is being addressed. Keep it up!!
