omega 2.6.12 drivers problem

Hi guys!

First of all, sorry for my poor english as i'm spanish

Well, i've got a Laptop with an ATI Radeon 9700 128 megs and i had omega drivers 2.6.5 based on catalyst 5.1, but now i've upgraded it to latest version 2.6.12 based on catalyst 5.2 drivers.

The question is that now my performance in all games is worst but not in frame rates (frame rates are quite the same) but in smoothness. I'll return back to previous omega drivers and this problem goes out.

You may think: "Stay with omega 2.6.5" but image quality in version 2.6.12 is very much better and i want to install this drivers.

Any suggestion in how to solve my problem?

Thanks

first of all, welcome to DH!

does this happen in a specific game or in general? you could try lowering down some settings.

i'm not sure what you mean with the problem, but why not wait for the 5.3 omegas that come out on saturday. try with those and see how it goes.

sorry i couldnt be more help.

Did you completely uninstall the drivers, run the driver cleaner "omega edition" in safe mode, and then reinstall the new drivers? It sounds like there is some reminents of the old drivers that need to be cleaned before you install the latest ones. Try that and let us know what happens. You may also want to try and reinstall your chipset drivers.

If you have a via chipset based motherboard, always go to http://www.viaarena.com and download/install the latest VIA chipset drivers (AFTER you installed the graphic card drivers).

This I have to do everytime I install any omega drivers or else the framerate will suffer.

i guess it works both ways, but i think most people install the chipset drivers before the display drivers.

It may be so, but I noticed a performance degree when installing new drivers even if i have previousely installed the chipset driver and that always help by reinstall the chipset driver (i don't know why).

so you mean you can still play games without reinstalling the chipset drivers but you get an fps boost after reinstalling them. maybe windows is reinstalling its agp driver for some crazy reason.

btw two years without a post that's pretty good

I have a different problem with the 2.6.12

I'm using a laptop with a radeon 9000. I was using the omega 2.5.9 drivers that worked fine, and I tried to update to the latest 2.6.12.
Once they were installed, my computer stopped working at all and even by uninstalling the omega drivers in Safe Mode and then reinstalling the ones supplied with the laptop I just got a black screen, and then a brief "unknown hard error" message.

Eventually, after formatting my hard disc, I found out that the drivers worked again, as long as I didn't install the AGP drivers for my motherboard (Intel 855MP), even the latest ones. As soon as I try to install those drivers, I just get a black screen.

Does anyone know anything about this problem ?
Are the AGP drivers really usefull ?

I'm with SP1.
It works with the Intel drivers installed but no VGA driver or with the Ati VGA drivers but no Intel, so no AGP. What I don't understand is that before everything worked fine. But since I tried installing the latest omega drivers, even with completely clean hard disc and original Ati drivers, it's gone crazy...

goto control panel>system>advanced>startup and display settings>and uncheck auto restart, then install the drivers again and see if theres any stop error that you can write down and post.
