by lag do you mean choppy framerate? If so, I would try an older version of the Omega's, with the old OpenGL driver, that might fix your CS problem. That driver is designed for older games, and the new one for well, newer games.

I wonder what kind of support told you to install Omega drivers
. I bet not Dell. Which laptop is it? Usually this can happen when the laptop needs to load something from the hard drive (usually pretty slow) and if it only happens when you enter a new area, this is not abnormal. In my (and others) personal experience, Omega 4.12-baed drivers worked best, so you might want to try them out.

Those games are actually pretty old, good, but older. Here is a link to Omega's site, look under the Omega Drivers archive, and you will find all his old drivers. I would first try the 4.12's as redsolar suggests. I would also defrag your hard drive, it does sound like the comp searching for something on it, and a defrag could help. You might also want to see if there are any updates, i'm sure there are for those games, install them, and see if that fixes it.

Most laptops can reduce speeds depending on how the power settings are set.
My Dell Inspiron runs at 1133Mhz but can change to 733Mhz if it needs to use less battery or if it runs idle. I think if you set it to Presentation in Power/Battery control panel, it will run at full speed. Best way to control it is by using SpeedSwitchXP, it can be set to e.g. Max Performance that will result in it running at full CPU speed and never slowing down. Has other settings like Max Battery too etc. You can get it here: http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/ Last edited by Gunny Highway; Mar 1, 2005 at 11:21 PM. Reason: spelling |

One thing of note is that it might not be a display issue. I would also try tweaking your sound settings for both games, as well as turning down hardware acceleration in the control panel/sound and audio devices section. It might be that both games are pushing the sound card more than it's capable of supporting. If you look around the net you will find some good guides on tweaking both games as well. One such place is TweakGuides who have a specific guide for tweaking UT2K3, and there are others for CS:Zero, or for games based on that game engine.

Even if it is running on non-battery power your power/battery settings might still make it use lower speeds etc.
The util mentioned before can be configured manually or it can automatically when on power use Max Performance and on battery use Max Battery. The good thing is that you can force it to use Max Performance even when on battery if needed. |

Are you saying it stutters when you talk via the headset? If so - it's likely your CPU compressing the sound to be transmitted over the network, and that causes speed drop. UT is a pretty CPU intensive game.

Well, botmatch does use some serious CPU too. And when you give the bots commands, their "actions" have to be recalculated. This may be the cause.

the 1.7ghz centrino is an amazingly fast chip, and the r9700m is a fast vid card. i'd say that your problem may be software based. how many processes do you have running in the background? i know that my laptop had abour 40 processes running in the background out of the box. i had to go through each of the extra ones and figure out which ones weren't required.

Yup .. like Son just said it might be some processes running in background ... trey msconfig and remove everything from there ... then close processes that you dont need ( winXP got a lot of unusefull process running after clean install )...
