whoops
looks like you already told me so back to "All I saw was 3 metal sticks (don’t know what they are called, but they stick out) Then another one that’s the same thing but with 4 instead of 3 Can that big connector connect to the one with 4 pins or not? In that pic you should me of the fan. The fans I have on now they have 5 pins and the connector is very small" the little sticks are called prongs the ones with 4 have an extra wire for speed adjustment (i think) ![]() if the fans are 3 pronged then dont plug it into that extra one past the plastic barrier the big connector from the fan picture is a female molex, the males are plugged into your hard drives/cd roms. unplug one and size it up to the 4 pin ones. could you post a link to the fans your getting? |

Also getting this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835106043 which I have no real idea if it will work on my computer or not. Only reason I am buying it is the one I have right now is about 4 times larger then this one... so its just there to save space and maybe if I feel like oc but 3.4 is already very strong so don’t see a point to oc right now
Buying a new cooler for my x800xt so this is the only way to fit it in |

Dear Choggi:
Referring to Common Problems and Fixes #19: I got the same error messages in installing Ati Radeon Xpress 200M. Pasted here ================================================== ==== 19. installing catalyst on windows x64 gives you this error mesage (and smartgart isnt running after reboot) Quote: (titlebar) thunk.exe INF file is missing i used filemon to monitor the install and found thunk.exe was trying to run system32\ati2saag.exe, so i extracted data1.cab in the driver folder (using i6comp x data1.cab). then copied ati2saag.exe to the system32 folder and problem fixed. copying the one in syswow64 to system32 also seems to work. ================================================== ==== Question: How to get i6comp to uncompress the .cab file? And do you mind sending me the ati2saag.exe file (in case too dificult to get "i6comp")? my email: altec(underscore)1@yahoo.com thanks, Dandy |

first check if ati2saag.exe is in your syswow64 folder if it is try copying that one to your system32 folder
also if that doesnt work, which version of the drivers are you trying to install? |

I have read the post for problems with driver installs above. My problem lies with Quote #5 "Try to steup display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup"
So I did what you suggested and no help. I even went to #18 and removed the oem.inf and oem.pnf files. Maybe I missed a step? 1. Went to device manager to remove display adapters-none list to remove 2. Start in safe mode 3. Ran driver cleaner and removed ATI as well as NVIDA(card I had before the last ATI) 4. Moved the oem.inf and oem.pnf files to the temp folder 5. Reboot, downloaded and ran the ATI software(6.9) for XP directly from the site and not the older disk(6.4) that came with the new card(Radeon X1600XT) Still get the same error message when I try to install. Did I miss a step? Please, your help is needed as I have been fighting with this for over a week now. ezd |

boot into safe mode, then in device manager goto view>show hidden devices.
then a video card should show up, remove it. now you can run driver cleaner and remove the oem files. then reboot, dont install the ati drivers yet first windows should popup a dialog trying to install a standard display adapter. after that happens then reboot and install the ati drivers. if windows doesnt try to install a standard display adapter then goto device manager and it should show a video card under unknown devices (it might be under display adapters). goto the properties>details>copy your device instance id and post it here |

Started in safe mode
Opened device manager>view>hidden devices and no display adapters or unknown devices listed at all so nothing to remove. Ran Driver Cleaner No OEM files found to remove Reboot Installed ATI drivers and same message again. Then went back to device manager to look again for dispaly or unknown devices but nothing. When I clicked to see hidden files I also clicked to see devices by connection. All I found was vgasave. I viewed properties>details and got root\legacy\_vgasave\0000 don't know if that helps. ezd |

before you install the ati drivers you need to install the standard display adapter driver

Can you tell me were to find the standard display adapter and how to install it. I assumed that a standard vga adapter was being used considering none were found in the device manager. Sorry for these basic questions but I'm just not that familiar with this type of procedure.

No video card at all in the device manager and no unknown devices. Thats what is so crazy for me. If i knew how to take a snap shot of my screen while in the device manager I would post it for you to see.

thats pretty strange a reboot should make the card show up, you could try taking out the card boot into windows, shutdown then stick the card back in. press ctrl+alt+del s s enter to shutdown (unless you have it setup to show the task manager).
easy way to grab a screenshot press print screen on your kb open paint and paste (dont save it as a bmp) |
