Ati Driver OR Shotty game programming? KOTR-2

Get this people... I had no issues untill I left Telos and went to dantooine"sp" but oh god do I understand everyone now...

I dont know whos smokeing what in the testing department but Ive got 3 differnt computers and all 3 of them show similar signs of shotty game programing and NOT the ati drivers.

PC one is a p4 2.4c with a 9800pro "now useing the 5.1's as they fixed the regular video glitch spikes"

Pc two is a geforce fx 5200

and pc 3 is a 3.2 p4 with a 9600xt "also useing 5.1"

The 5.1 drivers are the omega drivers as they useually work better out of box than the main drivers.

The problem... Also correct me if im wrong in saying that this couldnt be a driver or videocard issue....

On dantooine when you get near the main base there, right outside the shuttle landing port. You know, the place that you need to defend in a later quest for that area? Well- Im wondering why when I am outside and in the area surrounding this place I drop to a literal stop in video performance. If I try to move the charecter, even TAP the darn direction i want to go its almost like ive been walking for a minute or two as im now to the other side of the area FROM TAPPING IT!

The only other time ive seen anything like this is when those computer speed boosting programs are on to fake a MMRPG server out so that you can run faster. Its almost like that is what is happening... BUT GET THIS AS THERE IS MORE!!!

I was saveing and restarting everytime this happend as yes i could still get into and work the menu system. After about the 10th time as there is other areas that are prone to this problem IN THIS AREA that I finaly said to heck with it and droped my graphics down to packerd bell style AKA low none none NO BELLS NO WISTELS! The problem stoped, I figured I must have had it set to high, but it came back as soon as i left the area and came back. So I took a guess and switched my graphics back to high whyll still in game at the same spot. Wow... like zeus just restarted the program, all the problems went away... Now mind you I had to do this EVERY time that timewarp or what ever happend, it did fix it long enough that I was only needing to do it about every 10 min or so.

That is shotty programing on the devs part right? I got the same problem with the geforce system but atleast the glow worked on the geforce :X

So for all the people posting that you have issues here with KOTR2 99.5% (lol) of these problems need to be directed toward the dev team of KOTR2 or someone with a REALLY good working knolage of debugging a compiled game- if thats possible.

Yeah it seems it is bugged pretty hard. I am going to Dantoine tonight after work. We'll see how bad it gets there. So far experience was not too terrible.

Few things I cant seem to understand though for the actuall game is what differance your weapons do... Really no matter what your useing the stuff dies in the same ammount of time. Its like completeing a very long quest, just to find that your useing the same weapon becuase no other weapon has shown to be better than another... *this is except for the melee/range differance and ION vrs regular dmg... robos hate ions... lol*

Nothing can stand a good old Vibrosword/Vibroblade. 2 out of 3 people in my party are melee (usually 2 Jedi, one non-Jedi). I still have not made a lightsaber, but I am guessing it will happen on the first planet you go to after Telos (I am going to Dantoine).

Current party - Me(lvl12 Jedi Sentinel), Kreia(lvl11 Jedi Consular) and Bao-Tur(lvl11 Tech). Just got my Ebon Hawk, and it was time to hit the sack .

I had this problem too. I was actually coming on to see if anyone had a permanent solution... but I at least know how to temporarily fix it.

Go into the graphic options and choose advanced. Turn frame buffer effects off, then turn them back on. Then hit okay.

The screen should flash for a moment. Go back into the options. The brightness may or may not go out of whack. Move it a little and it should return to normal

Exit the menu and the game should be running fine again. This doesn't just work when the performance is so bad that the game seems to freeze. You can do it any time and you should see a performance boost (I get around 10-20 FPS increase in most areas)

This stays working untill you load a new area... then the game slows down again. I have no idea what in the world causes this, or why this method works in fixing it. Anyone know how to make this fix permanent? It's irritating to have to go into the graphics options every single time I load up a new area.

edit: Forgot to say, Athlon XP 2600 with a Radeon 9800 pro.

A better temporary fix is posted in the other KOTOR 2 thread.

What you should do is open the SWKotor2 dir and edit swkotor2.ini. Add the line
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
under the [Graphics Options] section. Also disable Frame Buffer effects either there or in the in-game options. Dantooine should now be playable.
