Default Post Radeon 9700 pro suicide????????

OK first my PC specs
amd athalon 2000+ (1.7ghz)
1024ram
120gb hd
gigabyte 7dx motherboard
Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb vid card
audigy sound

My problem is that I just installed the Radeon card, an upgrade from a GeForce Ti500 64mb card. Now I've noticed some FPS drop off in some games, specifically Nascar racing 2002 season. On the old card my FPS was approx. 35-42 with some game graphics turned down. Now I thought the new card would blow this away seeing that its a 128 mb card and stuff and allow me to pump all in game graphic options up to max , but NOPE, my FPS actually dropped to 22-29 or so with the same in game settings, making the game choppy/lugging/generally lousy. Was wondering if I could get some direction on how to get those FPS up again, perhaps ingame tweaks/file changes/video card tweaks etc. I am so disappointed right now. ALL BIOS/Chipset/Drivers etc have been updated as of today and are current. Including the 6193 drivers from Ati. My card was installed after a fresh reformat and install of winxp. Being sort of new to all the terminology and stuff its hard to know what to set, tweak etc. A friend pointed me here in hopes that maybe some folks could help out. I am so discouraged with my pc that it makes turning it on so difficult and my one of my favorite games sucking air. My thanks in advance for any help.

First off, your mobo doesn't support 8x, but don't sweat it, so many people are having trouble with 8x, it's probably better anyway.
Did you clean out the registry when you installed the new card? In fact did you uninstall the old Geforce at all? Make sure your registry is free of any Nvidia stuff, then uninstall the radeon, clean the registry again, then re-install it, and see whats up then.

ok can you post your bios settings in as much detail as possible, fast write, system caching, timings etc.
agp aperture (which I would incidentally in your case set to 256 meg).

Is it just this specific game that is causing the issue or is all the games you have tried?
