Sad Frustrating problem with latest Catalyst drivers

Hello All,

I have a frustrating problem with the catalyst drivers.

I recently got hold of a ASUS AX800XT PE card and installed the drivers that came with it in the box with no problems whatsoever (8.02 Asus drivers - Not sure what catalyst they are based on though).

I downloaded the latest Asus (8.08), 4.12 and 5.1 Catalyst drivers but when I run the setup on any of them I get a message back saying that no hardware or software components were found to install in my system, which to say the least is frustrating . I have managed to install the drivers through the Hardware Manager, but cannot install the control panel part of the distribution package.

Can anybody give me some insight in why this may be happening? What changed between the older and latests catalysts with the detection that causes this does anybody know?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

System:
Windows XP Home SP2
2gb PC3200
160Gb HD Raid 0 configuration
MSI 865PG Neo2 MB
Pentium 4 3.2ghz
Asus A800XTPE
Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX

P.S. I have tried downloading and installing all the latest chipset drivers from Intel to no avail.

been to windows update lately?
um if your trying to use CCC you'll need .net 1.1 or 2.0

Whats you video cards device ID? it can be found threw the device manager or the advance video tab or system information tool?

What card did you have before? have you ran driver cleaner? unistalled old drivers?

Hello Neon,

Thanks for the reply.

I am not trying to use the CCC so no need for the .NET distribution.

I had a Radeon 9800 Pro before and it suffered from exactly the same problem, so I thought I had done something to it to cause the issue and hence upgraded to the X800.

I don't have the device ID to hand as I'm at work but will post that here when I get home.

I did indead run Driver Cleaner from this very site before installing the X800.

I just find it strange that I can install the older cats without issue but the latest ones are a no go for some reason.

hmmm, interesting. I have heard of the asus cards being a little tempramental.
I wouldn't have thought these little asus quirks would stop you installing the cats though.

Well it's in the .inf's

Try installing the drivers from the device manager and pointing them to the
folder with the driver install inf's

C:\ATI\SUPPORT\**Name**\2KXP_INF\

Thanks Neon for the help.

I am able to install the drivers in that fashion but then cannot install either CCC ( I did download and try it on the offchance it would work) or the control panel as it says I dont have an ATI card installed (Even though Windows says I do).

After some experimentation with my old PC I have determined that the problem seems to lie with the MSI motherboard I am using. Why it should not work with the later drivers but be fine with the earlier drivers is however beyond me, but both my 9800 Pro and the A800XT card worked fine in my older PC and all drivers installed without issues.

I will try some more things this evening but if that doesn't solve it I will just buy a new MB and be done with it.

Thanks for all the replies and help offered.
