CATALYST 5.1 out now

They are now available. Comments in this thread please. And please vote for them and the new CCC. (mods insert link)

Rate Catalyst 5.1 (CCC only)

Rate Catalyst 5.1 (Driver only)

Also in the meantime I have been notified about the most in depth CATALYST review I have ever seen in my life. Its only in German now but at least graphs are universal. I am hoping to see it in English soon

um...

is it just me or is there absolutely nothing different with these drivers? It's listed as 4.12 "+" in atiTool... What's wrong with my comp?? Lol, or is everyone's CCC exactly the same?

I have a ATI 9600XT 128meg

I install it and get the same prob as all the ati driver. The driver failed all the time, I can't play more then 30min at cs:source. After +/- 30min, VPU recover start, and it's a loop all the 10 min. I have to use 3.8 driver damm....3.8...I lost like 20fps at HL2 with thos oldie driver but don't crash.

I try all the latest driver on win2k and XP and always the same prob but it's not a service case.

From ati website:
Here is a list of examples that likely do not require warranty service.
  1. System restarts to a black screen after installation.
  2. System hangs playing games, but everything else seems to work.
  3. Random system hangs.
  4. Slow gaming performance
  5. System hangs after launching the ATI TV Player.
  6. DVD Movie is choppy or will not play.
  7. Playing a movie using the ATI DVD Player, the video image on the secondary display is black.
  8. Errors launching any of the ATI software (TV, DVD, File Player, etc.)
  9. Audio is out of sync with the video.
  10. Failed captures.
  11. TV input no longer functions after installing DirectX 9.0b.
A unhappy ATI customer.

Thx for mentioning the comparison. =) The translation will start soon ... I'll let you guys know when it's done--if you like. The results of Catalyst 5.1 will be included within the next hour.

So ... I thought now it's time for registering here. I already read a lot here on driverheaven--nice forums!

Genius is on a distinguished road

I installed the CCC version and compared to the 4.12 CCC package which I've been using for the past 3 days I've gotten a significant performance decrease. It doesn't seem to be anything I did wrong as it's across the board. Doom 3 timedemo demo1 dropped about 7-8 fps which is pretty significant. I'm uninstalling and testing the non-CCC package now.

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining just making an observation. In no way am I assuming it a fault of the drivers at the moment.

Thank you, Catalyst maker, for releasing Linux version with X.org 6.8 support as well, together with Windows Catalyst 5.1 version.

Allow me to correct myself...

No loss in performance in Doom 3. It's exactly the same as before. My brother had been playing it and increased the resolution on me and I didn't realize it

I don't mean to be a jackass but I don't see the point in installing these...there's really nothing worth updating for besides the bug fixes but I don't play any of those games atm

hey terry can you unghost fast write for 9600 owners, my 9600 XT seems to run better with fast write on.

the new drivers w/o fast write, HL2 seems choppier on my AMD 2600 XP, VIA KT 400 vs omega-modded 4.12 (which has the fast write option if selected during install)

Well one obvious improvement is that you can turn off the 3D preview and it has a few more options

It's just me or RadLinker don't works with Catalyst CCC 5.1?

Installed RadLinker here, but nothing happens. There are not "radlinkers", or something like that...

@CATALYST maker:

It's nice to see CATALYST improving from release to release (i'm a satisfied Radeon 9700 owner since march 2003 and never had any issues with it) but from my point of view, it would be a step backward stopping the development of the classic control panel.

I always liked the CP for its clean layout while providing all important settings.

What I dislike about the CCC is its fancy style and that it is a resource hog.

I have no complains about the need for the .NET framework, it's just that i like simple and clean interfaces.

Please don't put the CP 6 feet under.

km52,

i installed the control panel version, works fine (other than the fast write option which is specific for 9600). you should be able to choose that one instead if that is your preference.
